Yeah, I gotta agree with MBT here. That deal was golden for Houston. And if anything, KD and Westbrook were holding Harden back. The numbers he was putting up when both weren't on the floor last year were excellent: http://www.nba.com/advancedstats/pla...01112;season=p
If you can't see it- thats 31.2 points per 36 minutes with a 6% increase in shooting %'s, despite taking many more shots. That gives a rough estimate of about a 64% TS% and again, this is with a MASSIVE increase in USG. This was in 526 minutes with Durant on the bench.
And with Westbrook out (in 715 minutes of action, not that small of a sample):
29 points per 36 minutes with his shooting %'s going up (from 47% to 52%) despite the fact that he took a ton more shots per minute.
I think from an individual stand point, he's going to have his best year by far this year combining BOTH efficiency and volume scoring. That might sound obvious but he appeared to actually be better when he didn't have Westbrook or Durant taking shots away from him. If we're talking about like a random snippet of 80 minutes or so, you could right that off as a fluke rather easily. But 500+ minutes is a decent amount and personally, I was shocked when I saw those numbers. Really makes me wonder what kind of season he'll have. Obviously he'll come down a bit from his first game, nor do I expect him to put up those same numbers he put up when Westbrook or KD weren't in the game but I could see a 25-5-5 season with maybe -1 on the rebounds and +1 on the assists. In fact, I'm pretty damn confident he puts up numbers along that line, so for me, I think thats more of a baseline.
PS- I was thinking all of this before his 1st game and he's off to a good start already. We'll see how he continues on.
PSK, I wish I could carry you around in my pocket so that when I have basketball arguments, I could ask you to back up everything I say with meticulous stats. Also, reading everything you wrote about Harden just now gave my mind an erection. If he puts up a 25-5-5 type season, I'm going to buy my first Rockets jersey since my Olajuwon jersey when I was 10.
