Tigers acquire Francisco Martinez from the Mariners for Cash, DFA Quintin Berry.

The Detroit Tigers obtained outfielder/third baseman Francisco Martinez from the Seattle Mariners and designated outfielder Quintin Berry for assignment to make room for Martinez on the 40-man roster.
The Tigers obtained Martinez for a player to be named later or cash considerations in a deal that will be completed on or before June 15.

Normally small moves like this don't really require threads but DFA Berry is a relatively decent story. He went from being a productive component to a scrub in less than a year.

The Marines have a baseball team?

This dude fell off big time. I remember a lot of us were pretty bummed he was in the Fister trade...guess it can't hurt to see if something is still there though.

Im disappointed Berry is gone. He should be on the team, not Don Kelly. He would fit a perfect role as a late game pinch runner. Much more serviceable than Kelly. Im sure he could hit what Kelly is right now...

Someone still has to claim Berry and there's no guarantee someone does. He has been garbage this year and it's not like he has a huge upside.

Ruffin was the PTBNL in the Fister deal.

I am guessing the PTBNL is inside the Tigers 2012 Amateur Draft.

This is a nice 40-man roster exchange for the Tigers. Francisco's former team (Erie) manager Chris Crohn and staff still oversees Erie's squad and may have already identified Martinez's recent hitting flaw.

My biggest question mark is where to play Martinez. (Overall) He was worse than Castellanos at 3B.

    Man what the ****.

Kelly does not deserve to be on the team. Berry helped our offense so much last year when he was on the pads. Seemed like he scored every time on base.

Berry was barely hitting .100 in the minors this year so I can understand why he was let go. It's hard to steal a base when you struggle to get on.

Kelly is 100000X a better baseball player then Berry. And I hate the fact Kelly is on an MLB roster. That should tell you something.
