This is my fear too. I get that Dickey's last three years have been solid but i dont trust him in our division or park.

    x2

He pitches in a pitchers park, and in the NL. He didn't fare too well earlier in his career while with Texas, Minnesota or Seattle, missed years in between....... not for me.

I take nothing away from the man, he threw well this year, but it is more the exception than the rule for a pitcher to blossom between 36-40.....

Yeah he was my CY Young pick but like you explained it's more about the fit than his ability.

I like these 3 options bc we keep prospects
    Brandon Belt
    Mike Napoli
Adam LaRoche (my favorite swing in MLB)

I just think Napoli would fit well in Boston

i have that awful feeling that with this Ross signing, the sox are going ***** out on a F.A (Napoli, Laroche) and try one of Lavarnway/Salty at first, i hope i'm wrong....

Maybe, but I'm guessing that if they do shy away from MN or AL, they won't be using Salty or Lavarnway at 1B.

If they are going to use Salty at 1B they might as well go get Carlos Pena, at least he will give you a great glove, and the same production, maybe a higher OBP, but everything else would be close....not saying I want either, rather, I don't think they use Salty at 1B.

The guys not to forget when it pertains to 1B:

    Mauro Gomez: (AAA/MLB) .308/.369/.569, 26 HR, 91 RBI, 43/114 (BB/K) - Mediocre defender.

    Jerry Sands: (AAA/MLB) .295/.373/.522, 26 HR, 108 RBI, 60/117 (BB/K)

If the Red Sox want to go with a VERY flexible team, they could theoretically carry Lavarnway, Ross, AND Saltalamacchia (although unlikely) and platoon Satly/Sands at 1B, start Salty behind the plate occasionally, use Sands in LF occasionally.

I love me some Jerry Sands, and think he's the forgotten man so far.
Here's to feeling good all the time.

Cherington already said he views Mauro and Sands are platoon guys. Doubt they get the 1B gig unless we bring in a guy who mashes RHP. Personally, of the guys in FA, only one that really intrigues me is Napoli because of what he could do playing half his games in Fenway.

My guess is that he is plan D. Wouldn't be the worst thing that has happened or the worst signing I've ever seen by the Sox, but I think he is a little ways down on their wish list.
