Did Khan make a decision on Gene Smith, last Sunday?

I would have to think so. It's coming on five years for Gene as G.M., and at least a decade where he has been a major influence in the recruitment of player personal. Shad watched the results of Smith's work on Sunday, in front of an optimisitic crowd that he and Tony Boselli spent great time and effort attracting to the stadium. With a 60 Minutes crew on hand documenting his life. It could have been a signature moment. Can't imagine that Smith could even look him in the eye after that game.

For once, I actually agree with Alpha. I've been backing Gene the whole time he has been here until this season. the 'rebuilding' period has run its course. With having a top ten pick since 2009 and really showing no signs of progress, his project has become a failure. The 2010 drafted netted literally nothing, depending on Gabbert who I actually still think has the chance to be a good qb, however not an elit one which is generally what you want from a qb taken top 10. Enough with the taking of a S from Wyoming and a G/T from Lehigh, these guys can't keep up with NFL athletes. Time to cut him lose the day after we end the season once again under .500

i have mixed feelings about this because he has hit with cox when healthy form W&M, pot roast from temple. brining in lowery. monroe is close to elite.

hes not the greatest gm but he has made good moves, brining posz, blackmon, laurent, lowery, landry, but some ****** ones, i have to agree

but the lack of depth he brings in is killing us right now.

I'll let the season run its course, and if we still don't make the playoffs with a healthy team then Gene is in real trouble

this season has been disappointing so far without a doubt but i don't think one bad game against one of, if not the best team in the league with half our oline and 2 of our top 3 defenders out is any reason to fire a gm.

when healthy, we have a pretty talented team. depth is another story but if session, smith, cox, britton, bradfeild, jennings are healthy we have a very solid starting unit on both sides of the ball IMO.

scobee and anger are great but the return and coverage units are awful (i think that is where the lack of depth starts to show).

The lack of depth is directly attributable to Smith's drafting. Most of the later round "sleeper" picks he has been so smug about have long been "put to sleep" as far as the NFL is concerned. His high end picks haven't been anything special despite 5 consecutive years picking in the top 10. In terms of the draft it's been Gene Smith versus accepted wisdom for the most part, and "accepted wisdom" is ahead about 35-3 at this point in time.

Also, the Dirk Koetter run offense in Atlanta looks about ten times better than the Mike Mularkey/Bob Bratkowski run offense did there. With the same players, basically.

yeah i agree he hasn't had any home run picks and his late end drafting has been pretty bad but it is not his fault that the team has been absolutely destroyed by injuries the past couple of seasons. i am not saying he is a top gm, not even close, but i don't think his fate is sealed.

yeah i have been baffled by that too. the falcons look very, very good this year. i always hated koetter here but i guess it really was just our players/JDR that were the problem because you are right, falcons offense this year > falcons offense last year. having a more experienced julio jones (who is a beast btw) helps but turner is over the hill and they are still tearin it up.

Just growing pains. We have been injury prone it seems like the last couple years, and the thing that sucks is it has happened at key positions/impact players. Gabbert is bound to struggle when we throw out a guy that hasn't played since 2008 at LG and Guy ****ing Whimper at RT. He just doesn't have much time, and when the WR's don't get seperation, that doesn't help his case.

It's early, we have pretty much a whole new coaching staff outside of a few guys, a lot of new young players, have been without some key players. Let's see what we do tomorrow with Cox and Mathis back. Unfortunately, our offensive line is more than likely going to suck still, hopefully we switch up the starters/guys pick it up. Would rather see Brewster out there than the guy we picked up last week (yeah, it's that sad, I can't even remember his name).

yeah i don't really know why that turnstyle started over brewster last week.. i thought they were praising brewster for his good play and then they choose to start a guy who hasn't played in like 4 years. that decision did not make sense to me

Fans who are enamored with OSU praised him. The guy is an undrafted third stringer who payed decent against other third stringers. Brewster belongs on the practice squad.

The only solution is to weather the storm with all these injuries - there is no way to prepare to be down to a third sting player and a guy off the street in the starting lineup on the offensive line (no matter how badly Alpha wants to personally fire Gene Smith).

no doubt the injuries have been brutal but i still think you start the guy who has been here since day 1 of the offseason over a guy you picked up off the street who hasn't played in god knows how long

Smith hired Mularkey as well. Look at the team out there. It is totally devoid of life or identity. So far at least, Mularkey has been a huge disappointment and a failure.
