According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Diamondbacks are engaged in active trade discussions regarding Justin Upton.

Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick said during a radio appearance last month that Upton was "highly likely" to return in 2013, but that hasn't stopped general manager Kevin Towers from shopping him. The Diamondbacks are in the market for a shortstop, so Rosenthal speculates that Upton could be flipped in a deal for Rangers' shortstop Elvis Andrus. If the D-Backs trade Upton, they will move ahead with Gerardo Parra, Jason Kubel and Adam Eaton in their outfield. Upton, 25, will make $9.75 million next season and $14.25 million in 2014 and 2015.

I see Castellanos, Porcello, Peralta and Dirks for Justin Upton and JJ Putz, then we go out and sign BJ Upton at somewhat of a discount to play with his brother. Then we trade Garcia and Rondon for Asdrubal Cabrera. Sanchez signs elsewhere for too much money so we sign Edwin Jackson for around 3yrs $21 million.

Doesn't mean anything tbh. All GMs will due their "due diligence". Once reports of offers being made and teams being mentioned, then I'll get interested. I'd be more upset if they didn't check in on him and do some scouting.

It's definitely worth kicking the tires on Upton. We need a Right handed bat in the outfield. I would easily send Castellanos, Porcello, and Boesch (maybe even more). I guess I'm hopefull that Porcello and Boesch still have some worth, but maybe I'm wrong.

If we don't make a move on Upton, I'm fine going after Hunter or maybe be able to go cheaper with a guy like Ryan Ludwick (not a huge fan, but better than what we currently have). I definitely think outfield and bullpen are the clear issues we need to address.

That's way too much for Upton IMO, if that's what we have to give up then why not just go after BJ instead. He's a couple years older and maybe not quite as good but c'mon now.

Bowden's tweet also says the Dbacks would have to throw something in as well. I saw Klane mention it in another thread but maybe that other is Trevor Bauer? I honestly don't know much about Bauer so I don't know his value but I have heard the D'backs are down on him.
