Any "big" trade from us is going to start with Castellanos and Smyly. And probably Garcia? You all realize that right? And that that would leave us with Andy Oliver and Aaron Westlake as our best prospects?

I would much prefer another big signing instead of a big trade. We need to build the farm back up a bit before we can empty it.

I really hope we resign Anibal. Hes very underrated and having him + fister as a 3/4 is pretty damn good IMO.

I'm coming around more to the idea of resigning Annibal and trading Max, Porcello, or Smyly for an upgrade at SS or COF. Maybe Upton or Andrus.

Think Smyly/Porcello and Garcia would be a solid base for a corner OF trade?

Oh yeah it definately would. Couldn't net Upton but it could get us something very good. Maybe the O's would trade Nick Markakis for that.

Oh, I didn't mean JUST that. Just that as a start, and pick from what we have as needs for the other team, if that makes sense.

Yeah it makes sense. All depends on what Illitch approves as a salary cap and if Leyland comes back. If Jim is back I expect us to go all in again and any improvement we make will be via trade exhausting our farm system again.

I am most concerned about who are closer will be next season? There is nothing in FA market this offseason. I do not want papa grande back on this team. Maybe Bruce Rondon will get a chance?

We have a few internal guys with Benoit, Vilareal, Al, Rondon, and even Dotel.

    All pretty much known stuff.

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/0...sch-young.html

The Tigers overtook the White Sox in the standings yesterday and now have a one-game lead in the AL Central with seven games to play. Here’s the latest from Detroit, where the Tigers will host the Royals this afternoon...

Agent Scott Boras, who now represents Jose Valverde, told John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press that his client can continue closing for many years to come. "Closers are good in their mid-30s, not in their mid-20s," Boras said. The Tigers don’t have an obvious internal alternative to the 34-year-old Valverde, who’s eligible for free agency this offseason.

Lowe and Free Press writer George Sipple note that the Tigers might not have room for Brennan Boesch on next year’s team. The 27-year-old will be arbitration eligible for the first time this offseason but he's a non-tender candidate.

The Tigers have a $6MM club option for Jhonny Peralta in 2013 and they probably won’t find anyone steadier for that price, Lowe and Sipple write. I expect the Tigers to exercise the option.

It’s not easy to see where Delmon Young would fit on next year’s Tigers team, the Free Press writers note. Victor Martinez is expected to return in 2013, which means the Tigers aren’t a logical landing spot for Young, who hits free agency this winter.

Anibal Sanchez could be a fit in Detroit next year, but the Tigers would have to re-sign him as a free agent.

Does Boras not know anything about our system? How many *potential* closers do we have? I mean seriously? I'd rather have a "crappy" closer for league min(say Rondon) instead of giving Potato some ridiculous deal.

I think the most glaring need we have is short stop. I'd like to see us make a push for Andrus or even Alcides Escobar. I wouldn't mind if we stood pat in the outfield and let Garcia start in right next year. I like what I've seen from him so far, particularly his speed. Maybe we trade Porcello and another piece for a solid mid-rotation kind of guy or pick one up in free agency then include Porcello in a deal for a SS. I'd like to see us hold on to Sanchez. After a rough start he's started to pitch well and he fits in nice in the back end of the rotation. We'll also get a boost from VMart coming back.
