SIGN Marcum or McCarthy to a 2-3 year deal.
I really like Buehrle, but he is owed big dollars, and may or may not be content in Toronto. At this point, we can't know for sure where his heart is. Myers is probably untouchable, but KC has a prolonged desire to acquire pitching and the idea of grabbing a bona fide #2-3 in Buehrle and a prospect like Norris might entice Dayton Moore to move his top prospect. The difference in the money owed versus what Buehrle would have gotten could be used towards extending Josh Johnson.
If we were able to bring in Niese and Marcum/McCarthy, our rotation would be very solid, and the cost would be less going forward than if it included Buehrle.
We'd have so many bats, it'd be hard to fit them all in, but with so much versatility and depth, we'd certainly be safe against injuries!!!
Rotation:
Johnson R
Romero L
Morrow R
Niese L
Marcum R
(pick your own order for the SPs)
Line-Up:
SS Reyes S
LF Cabrera S
RF Bautista R
1B Encarnacion R
DH Davis L or Myers R
3B Lawrie R
CF Rasmus L
C Darnaud R (Buck to start the season)
2B Bonafacio/Izturis S
Myers will get plenty of playing time in the OF as well, giving Rasmus days off vs. Lefties and allowing Cabrera and Bautista to have regular days off. We could even deal Rasmus and move Cabrera to CF.
The power potential from Bautista, EE, Davis, and Myers would be incredible, and we've already got loads of speed. I think this is the type of offense that could contend for years!!
The pitching would be very solid, and additions could be made by dealing some of the depth we have to acquire another ace type. I like the options the jays have going forward!!
