Trade Proposal For James Shields During Off-Season

With Tampa having an excess amount of quality MLB ready starting pitchers, here's a look at what their rotation can look like without Shields in it for the 2013 season.

    Price
    Moore
    Hellickson
    Davis
    Cobb

Tampa should consider trading Shields, the oldest of the 5 SP's listed above, to the Twins who are desperate for SP's.

In exchange for Shields, Morneau, Span & 1 mid (Joe Benson) & 1 low level prospect should do it.

With B. J. Upton, Carlos Pena & Luke Scott becoming FA's after the 2012 season, Morneau would be an upgrade at 1st & DH over Pena & Scott. Span can play either CF/LF, depending on where Jennings plays.

This trade wouldn't add to Tampa's payroll either, which's always a good thing given Tampa's market.

Morneau is also a FA after 2013 and is owed 14M for next season which would be like 35% of Tampa’s total salary.

Not likely in the least bit.

The main point in trading Shields would be to not pay his 2013 option....They will probably want a ML ready spec, a top spec, and 1-2 mid-low end specs.

I'm sure the White Sox will be looking to trade Alex Rios this offseason. He could really help out that terrible hitting outfield in Tampa.

what about a trade centered around Hank Conger (C) Mark Trumbo(1st/RF) and Kole Calhoon(OF), or one centered around Conger, Bourjous and CJ Cron(1st)?
