just by saying '90's rock' makes me think she's not talking about alice in chains.
maybe like hootie and the blowfish and matchbox 20, maybe?
as far as rainbow goes... i like anything dio. and blackmore is awesome. steph, heard of blackmore's night? it's another brainchild of his but with a female singer. i have heard 2 songs from them and one is pretty folksy, and the other is neat, too.

i've been a big fan of lady rockers my whole life, going from all them jefferson groups to janis to alanis morisette and flyleaf to pretty much any scandinavian metal. they don't make music here like they do in finland and sweden. viking descendants take musicianship and songwriting to a whole new level. i'm talking nightwish and after forever and even the deathier metal acts like dark tranquillity and in flames. i can lose myself for hours...

Ew hootie? Hell no lol
Alice in Chains is my all time fav band, Nirvana, Stabbing Westward, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, RHCP, a few songs by Pearl Jam.... all that was awesome in the 90s. Sorry boys, I'm younger and hate most 70s and 80s music.
And kid rock isn't rock music lol
Neither is hootie.
Matchbox 20 is decent.
Don't like me?
Go have a seat with the rest of the putas waiting for me to give a flying fk.
understandable... i definitely give you props on your musical taste. i was fearful you are a streisand/manilow/carly simon junkie. huge kudos for AIC/nirvana/NIN/rhcp etc.
i didn't start out liking 70s/80s music. most in the 80s is garbage. once you develop a healthy appetite for metal though, the metal gods of the 70s kinda grow on you a little.
AIC is classic. do you hate their new stuff?

scandanavian rock?
i remember Saxon, I had a couple of their albums...Very good group..
Stabbing Westward did one of the greatest ballads no one has ever heard...no crying allowed(lol) talk about depressing
But I actually like the song quite a bit:
http://www.google.com/url?q=http://w..._HEU5Oru6VXw0A
The 80s produced some amazing groups they are just underground postpunk stuff. The stiff little Fingers,Echo and the Bunny men, The cure, The Icicle works,The Alarm,Gene Loves Jezebel,The Psychedelic furs, the smiths,Depeche Mode, erasure...a lot moer.
In Metal there was dokken, scorpions,Iron Maiden, alcatrazz, dio,Def leopard,
Oh and I can appreciate Manilow, streisand, fleetwood mac,Billy Joel,Elton John...I dont have any two hour sessions listening to them(lol) but Streisand sang like a freakin angle when she was younger, same with karen Carpenter,
I love a lot of music really as long as the performer is talented or unique.
this song from the 80s The killing Moon was featured in peroid movies throught the 80s:

Ray manzaric from the Doors fame compared the lead singers style and songs to the late Jim morrison,he sat in on several tracks on their albums.
The lyrics of this Cure song are hypnotizing in their beauty:
opps! duplicate link from above, sorry, heres the cure link:

."oh elise it doesnt matter what you do.
i know ill never really get inside of you,
to make your eyes catch fire the way they should,
the way the blue should pull me in
if they only would
if they only would...
at least Id lose this sense of sensing something else that hides away
but me and you were worlds apart with aching looks and breaking hearts
and all the prayers your hands can make,
I just take as much as you can throw...
and then I throw it all away....
like throwing faces at the sky,
like throwing arms around yesterday
I stood and stared wide eyed in front of you,
and the face i saw looked back the way i wanted to,
but I just cant hold my tears the way you do...
Elise, believe I never wanted this,
I thought this time Id keep all of my promises,'
I thought you were the girl id always dreamed about, but I let the dream go
and the promises broke and the make believe ran out....
hauntingly poetic.
can anyone tell me what song has this line?
Theyd put us on a railroad
theyd dearly make us pay,
for laughing in thier faces and making it our way
theres emptiness behind their eyes and dust in all their hearts,
they just want to steal us all and take us all apart...
Your missing out if you just looking for cool beats...

Yeah my taste in music is drastically different from your guys'
I still think it's flawless though![]()
I like the new album but HATE they call themselves Alice in Chains. Should have let the name go after Layne died. The grunge sound is very eerie and DuVall has an amazing voice.
Did you hear Nirvana is reuniting?
Edit: I don't think I've ever heard a Streisand song and I have no idea who Carly Simon is lol
I enjoy some 70s but a big no on 80s. Except Spinal Tap. But that's different.![]()
Don't get me wrong, I'll jam out to some Ace of Base, Tupac and a verity of other genres but AIC, Soundgarden, etc etc just can't go wrong. I'll NEVER get sick of Layne's voice. The raw emotion mixed with the composed lyrics from Jerry Cantrell's mind always makes me sad that it ended too soon.

there really isnt a genre of rock that didnt have its roots in another era,
Grunge was just an off shoot of the post punk rock of th early 80s.
which was just an off shoot of Punk
which was just a sound that started in england with bands like this
http://www.google.com/url?q=http://w...4tRKCchhRjLZlw
this is from the early 70s and I could layer the sound a little, smooth out the vocals and people would think it was greenday(lol)
heres another track from SLF that started changing the trend:
http://www.google.com/url?q=http://w...JMfnx1_zpw5rcg
a lot of grunge groups where heavily influenced by groups like
Love and Rockets, who had one of my favorite logos of all time
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...ed=0CBgQ9QEwAQ
heres a song from 1985 that Ive heard a lot of musician site as an inspiration for the grunge scene, youll have to forgive Bernard Sumners vocals(lol)
This group actually formed after the lead singer Ian Curtis hung himself on the eve of their 1st North American Tour as the band Joy Division who famously provided Love will tear us apart to legendary gothic lore.
This cut is called sunrise:
http://www.google.com/url?q=http://w...mURpTkP05qxKDw
from the 90s time frame I found A perfect Circle pretty great:
http://www.google.com/url?q=http://w...isiR4NLEe41RjQ
the song slowly cresendos to his lamenting vocal line:
(Im) apparently nothing at all
You dont, you dont, you dont....see me
another haunting tune.

Nirvana, Pearl Jame and Hoobastank...I guess the 90's had some good stuff.
to understand U2s genius you have to dig past the radio songs(actually that is true of alomost every band)

Peace on earth was particulary emotional becasue it was written prior to the events of 9/11, but seemed like it was written about the incident,
"where I grew up, there werent many trees,
where there were we tore them down to use them on our enemies"
"theyre reading names out, over the Radio, all the folks the rest of us wont get to know"
Jesus, can you take the time, to throw a drowning man a line?, peace on earth..
The second track, like a song,is a second song from war about the catholic/protestant violence in Ireland...No band ever did more to end the violence in a country as they did there.
they also have two of the most powerful songs ever written regarding Drug addiction:
Bad and running to stand still:
" and so she woke up, woke up from where she was ...lying still, said Ive got to do something about where Im going,
step on a steam train...step out in the driving rain maybe...run from the darkness in the night...
sweet the sin, but bitter the taste in my mouth........you know I took the poison from the poison stream, and I floated...out of here.
She moves through the street, her eyes painted red, under the black belly of cloud, in the rain,
in through a doorway , she brings me , white gold and pearls she has stolen from the sea, she is raging...she is raging....and the storm blows up in her eyes...she will, suffer the needles chill....shes running to stand........still.

http://www.google.com/url?q=http://w...UjtHOvccwBQOaw
listen to his intro into bad and then listen to 50,000 people sing the song with him....
u2 is hit and miss. i love their early stuff til the one past joshua tree, then they get to where i skip half the tracks. their good stuff is really good, and they've put out so many albums that even with their duds make up a long list of good stuff.
APC is platinum. everything maynard james keenan touches is gold, even when he covers 70s peace songs. tool/apc/puscifer... amazing.
steph, scandinavian metal is amazing. bands like nightwish/after forever/revamp/ charon/katatonia/battlelore/in flames/dark tranquillity/amon amarth/tristania...
rock just doesn't do it for me any more. metal has the songwriting eloquence and purity of well-written rock ballads with even more raw emotion and virtuosic musicianship. i'm not talking just pure speed... even the middling metal bands have guitar players in terms of skill and songwriting could teach slash a thing or two.

^ thanx ill have to check it out...Growing up in LA,The Metal scene was quickly consumed by the Glam rock scene which took off like a rocket and instantly produced a gag reflex and a desire to evacuate my stomach.
It was metal for kiddies, even Guns and roses was a little trite for me.
I gave up on metal at that point and started looking into alt rock, The smiths,The cure there were some crazy good bands that didnt get a lot of attention.
I have literally hundreds of Vinyls, twelve inch singles, dance remixes,I have the entire KISS catelogue until Unmasked in first pressings.
I had to dig deep for you on this one chip,
this is a local SanDeigo band...this CD isnt in publication anymore and the few that did get made were pretty much CA. only just about.
