I really enjoyed the last episode, which has been the strongest of the season thus far. But my girlfriend and I both watch the show religiously, and I definitely think this show is lacking a bit right now. Season 5 and 6 and the first half of season 7, the writers clearly had an overall goal in mind and while there was the occasional Scooby Doo episode, everything was driving the characters in that direction.

Right now, it's a little too Scooby Doo for my taste. No epic two-parters, mostly weak individual stories and very little development from Clara. I actually enjoyed her far more in the Christmas special and in the very first episode of the season. But I think her problem is she doesn't show a huge range of emotion. Amy Pond was also quick-whitted and sarcastic, but she showed fear, anger and sadness in moments when she needed to. I don't get that from Clara. It doesn't seem like anything bothers her, and that bothers the hell out of me.

I keep wondering if/when River Song will return and how they're going to handle David Tennant and Billie Piper coming back for the 50th anniversary special. But hopefully the show will pick up again and Clara can become a more interesting companion. At this point, she's my second least favorite, just ahead of Martha Jones.

Was I the only one hoping to see some sort of "Rogues Gallery" somewhere during The Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS?

I've just started watching this, actually. Not this season, I'm still on the Tenth, but I did just see Blink, which was excellent television.

I love this show, even the old ones. "Blink" is possibly the best episode ever.

The Lonely Child and The Doctor Dances, which I think were also Moffat episodes from the Ninth Doctor, were also excellent. Creepy as hell.

Well it looks like there is something we agree on.

I think that part of what the show is suffering from (much as it did in the Davies years with Davies tropes), is that Moffett has his tropes and he repeats them. When Moffett was occasionally writing an episode they stood out, but when he has to write 4-5 a season it starts to get old.

The last few episodes have been a vast improvement from the first three in this current run, but I'd still like to see more. Supposedly, the Clara question will be answered in the finale on May 18, so I'm definitely looking forward to that. But there is still something missing from their relationship which made the Amy, Rory, 11th Doctor relationship so charismatic and dynamic.

I love Matt Smith and the quirkiness he brings to the character, but just like David Tennant, I think his Doctor has pretty much run its course. I know he's locked in through 2014, but after that, I'd like to see them go another direction.

This is a show that I would like to get into, but for whatever reason, I can't. I have watched about 4 episodes of the first season of the newer series, and it is a good show, it just doenst have that factor in it that makes me want to watch the next episode immediately. In the Netflix era of TV, TV for me has become like a good book, where you just can't put the book down. For a book, you keep wanting to read just another chapter, for TV, you just want to see one more episode. I would relate this TV show to a Stephen King book (exluding The Dark Tower series)...his books are a good read, but after I finish a chapter, I don't feel the need to move immediately on to the next chapter. There are books that I can finish in 2 or 3 days, and they are great, much like there are TV shows I can watch in 2 or 3 weeks...then, there are books that take me a whole year to read, and those are good too, and there are TV shows that take me multiple years to watch...and those are good too. For me though, my favorite books and TV shows are the ones that keep me engaged, and wanting more. Doctor Who does not have this factor for me, though, I still think it is a good show.

See, that's the problem. You've only watched the first few episodes of the ninth Doctor. I like Christopher Eckleston okay, but the ninth Doctor is horrible by comparison to David Tennant (10th) and Matt Smith (11th). Also, the first few episodes of the comeback are atrocious, and they look like they were made by a bunch of high school students with $100 and a ****** camera they picked up at a pawn shop.

Push through season one and things will improve significantly. By the end of season one, you'll be hooked, and once you start getting into season two, it will be so much better, you'll completely forget that you ever watched season one to begin with. Hell, if you can't make it through all of season one, just watch the good episodes. I recommend Dalek, Father's Day, The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances (two-parter) and the two part finale of Bad Wolf and The Parting of the Ways.

Oh... and in terms of clever, well written science fiction, Doctor Who drops its pants and takes a huge dump on Lost. It's smarter, better written, funnier and has far more variety.

LOST kicked your dog, didn't it?

I enjoy Dr Who, but even into the third season of the reboot it occasionally suffers from the same thing Star Trek always did. Problems are solved suddenly and almost out of nowhere using a random loophole in the rules or a device or some such that you've never heard of. There are some really good deus ex machina examples so far in this series.
