Grab your dog and a glass of Scotch, and toast to this classy bit of news. Eight years after Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy hit theaters comes word that anchorman Ron Burgundy will return to the big screen for a sequel.
“Oh Baxter, you are my little gentleman...”
Deadline shared the news this evening, stating that "the sequel finally came together today." Anchorman 2 (no mention of a subtitle yet) is set to be produced under Judd Apatow’s banner, with Adam McKay on board to direct the follow-up, and he’ll also write the script. Also set to reunite for the sequel are Steve Carell and Paul Rudd. No mention of Christina Applegate or David Koechner, but hopefully they’ll be locked in to return as well.
Beyond the mentioned names, details appear to be slim at this point, and it'll be interesting to see where the story picks up. As someone who finds herself occasionally and possibly even involuntarily quoting the original film (“It’s a formidable scent. Stings the nostrils... in a good way.”), I’m considering this good news, especially when factoring in mentions of Ferrell, Rudd and Carell returning, as well as McKay. The formula worked once. So... when in Rome...
Deadline also shared this clip from tonight's episode of Conan, which has Ron Burgundy himself announcing the news (and wowing the crowd with his flute skills) to everyone here "in the Americas" that Paramount and himself have come to terms on a sequel:
