Amari Spievey!

Detroit Lions safety Amari Spievey was arrested in Middletown, Conn., Tuesday after a dispute with his girlfriend about child support, police said.
Spievey, 24, was charged with third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct for the incident that happened shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

I think that's what they do when they can't figure out which party is at fault. Charge 'em both and let the investigation sort out the details.

In a later statement to police, Santos said Spievey was telling her daughter "not to be like your mother.' She also told police that when she asked Spievey for money, he told her to "take him to court,' according to police.

Santos is accused of pushing Spievey while he was holding their daughter, and he pushed her back, according to police. She then tried to take the child away from him, but he pushed her until she stumbled against a counter, according to police.

Spievey told police Santos grabbed his throat with her right hand and he had to push her hand away. He also told police she threw a "flurry

of punches at his chest.' Spievey allegedly told police he already gives Santos child support and that he will pay anything for his daughter, but he will not pay for Santos to "go shopping and pay off her student loans,' according to police.

Bond was set at $5,000 non-surety for Spievey and Santos and they were both scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Wednesday. They were issued no-contact orders and Spievey told police he would be staying elsewhere until his court date. Police also notified the state Department of Children and Families of the incident.

pievey, who missed most of the 2012 season with a concussion, agreed to a one-year contract with the Lions two weeks ago. Continued...

Spievey has been with the Lions for three seasons after he was drafted in the third round in 2010 out of Iowa where he played cornerback. He was converted to safety in training camp of his rookie season.

He has started in 26 games, including two in 2012 before he suffered a concussion in the Monday night game at Chicago on Oct. 22. It was his last game of the season.

Spievey was coming off a stellar 2011 season in which he started 15 games and had three interceptions.

His role for the 2013 season has yet to be defined. Free safety Louis Delmas will return after signing a two-year deal. Also the Lions signed free agent safety Glover Quin, formerly of the Houston Texans.

If thats how it happened I don't see this as that bad. He was just defending his daugther.

But if it comes out that he actually went crazy and did something stupid he should be cut right away to send a message. We can't have a team in shambles with arrests this year.

I think we take a safety for injury insurance, but with 2 starters already probably not that high. maybe the 4th or 5th round
