I love it. No mediocre DC gets more camera time than Rob Ryan. I smell Raiders in his future...

Jerry Jones, Jason Garrett want Monte Kiffin to replace Rob Ryan

Posted by Michael David Smith on January 10, 2013, 2:18 PM EST

After firing defensive coordinator Rob Ryan on Tuesday, the Cowboys have identified their top candidate to replace him: Monte Kiffin.

Kiffin, the guru of the Tampa 2 defense, is the leading candidate in the eyes of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and coach Jason Garrett, ESPNís Ed Werder reports.

We noted after Ryan was fired that the Cowboys could switch to a base 4-3 defense, and hiring Kiffin would make a lot of sense if thatís what the Cowboys plan to do: Although Kiffin is coming off a disappointing season on his son Laneís staff at USC, he is still one of the most well-regarded defensive coaches in the NFL, stemming from his 13 seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Buccaneers.

In fact, the 72-year-old Kiffin is well regarded enough that he has already had offers. According to Werder, new Chiefs coach Andy Reid was interested in hiring Kiffin as the defensive coordinator in Kansas City, but Kiffin wasnít interested.

It remains to be seen whether Kiffin will be interested in going to Dallas. But after leaving USC he said he wanted to return to the NFL, and it sounds like thereís a coach and owner in Dallas who are ready to welcome him.

Bah we'll see what that does putting their best player in a new position and on the line with a hand in the ground.

Ware is too good to not succeed as a 4-3 end. Wondering how those LBs will adapt though and not sure they have the DTs for it.

Be interesting to see those DBs run tampa 2

Carr is a natural fit for the Tampa 2, Clayborn is more affective man to man. Plus they don't have the safeties to be affective unless they sign/draft one

The recovery time for DeMarcus Ware post surgery is 5-7 months, out until the start of training camp if not the entire preseason

Can't imagine them not making some kind of move for a safety.

My suspicion is another bad year would get Garrett fired and Kiffin promoted to HC.

Eagles interviewing Jay Gruden for HC. Could definitely help for developing Foles.

Yeah they'd do it just to get an advantage over NY. And KP is so upset with us that he might actually consider doing it.

Don't think it would have to do with him being upset, more so him following guaranteed money to protect his future.
