    Cardinals (73-63) vs Pirates (71-65) Sep 1-3

Pittsburgh Pirates @ St. Louis Cardinals
Monday, September 1, 1:15 PM CDT , Busch Stadium

    Gerrit Cole, RHP

Cole will be making his third start since returning from injury. He was great in his first two games back, with a 2.77 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 13 innings -- nine of which came in his last start, when he took a no-hitter into the sixth vs. the Cards.
    Lance Lynn, RHP

Lynn will face the Pirates for a second straight start, coming off a strong showing in Pittsburgh when he allowed two runs over six innings. Lynn has pitched through the sixth in 19 starts this year and finished August with a 1.99 ERA.
Tuesday, September 2, 7:15 PM CDT , Busch Stadium

    Jeff Locke, LHP

Locke had a 4-0 August, which he capped by allowing just one run over 7 1/3 innings against the Cardinals last Wednesday.
    Adam Wainwright, RHP

Wainwright lost to the Pirates in his last start when they tagged him for three runs in six innings. The Cardinals have won only three of Wainwright's eight second-half starts after going 15-4 behind him prior to the All-Star break.
Wednesday, September 3, 12:45 PM CDT , Busch Stadium

    Edinson Volquez, RHP

Volquez took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his last start vs. the Reds and lasted 7 2/3 innings on 114 pitches. He was charged with one run and struck out six. In his last five starts, Volquez owns a 1.65 ERA.
    Shelby Miller, RHP

Miller pitched well his last time out, allowing just two solo homers in a seven-inning no decision. He showed improved efficiency, though homers continue to sting Miller. He's allowed eight over his last seven starts and 20 this season.

It would be in the Cards best interest to win their remaining games.

I guess the head is fine! The head of his bat might be a little bruised though

Agreed, on all counts! I hope it continues.

Also Matt Adams shows off his deceptive athleticism. He probably has been the coldest of the Cardinals as of late, but you've got to figure that is only temporary with how he handles himself at the plate.

Watching Carlos Martinez, you wonder how anyone hits him. He can dial it up to 98 with movement and then throw that tight slider at 84.
