I ****ing love Alice in Chains, too. I would've loved to have been born about 10-15 years earlier, and been able to see all these bands back in their heydays.

AiC absolutely owns their albums are soooo good. Really would have liked to see them back in the day. But there comeback album "Black gives way to blue" is really good. The new singer has a good voice an fits really good. Don't know if he can perform the old songs live though.

I was lucky enough to see them 3 times from '91-'94, from clubs to Lollapalooza. They were much better at the club setting, but I believe most bands are.

William is a great singer. Did you guys know he co-wrote this amazing song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT9h_...eature=related

He was also in this band that was awful. http://www.allmusic.com/album/white-...k-mw0000598292

We knew a lot of the same people back in my ATL days. I want to say we played a show together, but don't quote me on that. ATL is a small scene. It's like 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon.

I was skeptical going in but I've seen them twice with Duvall and I thought he did the old stuff fantastic.

This live version of X.Y.U. I just recently came across is pretty damn bad-*** as well.

Unfortunately, I'm not really grabbed by anything off their newest album.
This track was crazy-successful for them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59g5R8rwqpY

    Great ****ing song.
Pavement is awesome. Is there a difference between indie and alt though? I thought alternative would be stuff like soundgarden and foo fighters, but whatever pavement kicks ***.

How about some Built to Spill? This album is in my top 5 for sure.

Born out of the tern New Wave which was becoming mainstream, Alternative was a term started in the 80's. It was "Alternative to the norm". This included bands like Depeche Mode, the Smiths, The Cure, New Order, Echo and the Bunnyman etc. This faded into groups who gained popularity in the early 90's such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pixies, Siouxsie and the Banshees and bridged into every act that was in Lollapalooza. When the term "Alternative" started being used for the types of bands that were actually mainstream, many who knew the difference looked elsewhere.

The late 90's was a sad part of the industry. As fans we thought the big industry finally started signing good bands prior, but when they ran out of signing every band out of Seattle and Boston, they simply started signing those who were simply pretending to be those bands. See Candlebox, Third Eye Blind, Seven Mary Three, Matchbox 20 and every other band with a number in their name.

This made everyone to run back to those independent labels where we discovered many of the great bands prior to their major label success. Hence the term "Indie" was born. Unfortunately, now that term is so widespread, it is loosing its credibility as well.

What is going to be the next term to more or less describe the same thing?

Does anybody else think Billy Corgan is an *******? I've seen him say in interviews that bands like the Smashing Pumpkins should have gotten the same recognition as Nirvana, and he always scoffs when Kurt Cobain is mentioned. Smashing Pumpkins were no where near as good as Nirvana.
"Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace."-Bill Hicks
