    Nascar's random BS thread.

Thought it would be nice to have a thread where we can talk random stuff without creating a thread for everything we want to talk about.

    1990 14 debris cautions .48 per race
    1991 17 .59 per race
    1992 13 .45 per race
    1993 19 .63 per race
    1994 19 .61 per race
    1995 16 .52 per race
    1996 23 .74 per race
    1997 14 .44 per race
    1998 17 .52 per race
    1999 11 .32 per race
    2000 16 .47 per race
    2001 27 .75 per race
    2002 40 1.11 per race
    2003 41 1.14 per race
    2004 60 1.67 per race
    2005 88(!) 2.44 per race
    2006 81 2.25 per race
    2007 71 1.97 per race
    2008 77 2.14 per race
    2009 70 1.94 per race
    2010 50 1.39 per race
    2011 58 1.61 per race
    2012 29 1.53 per race

I think it is interesting that throughout the 90s, the amount of debris cautions did not vary much. Once NASCAR got its new TV deal in 2001, there was a pretty significant jump, and then another jump once the Chase began in 2004. I would love to know how NASCAR would explain such a rise in debris cautions, when I would think with better designed cars and tires there should be fewer debris cautions today than in the 1990s.
I read that on Yahoo and felt that it was a very interesting point. We all know that the "debris" cautions have been increasing more and more over the years but i didn't know that there was that big of a difference between 1990 to present.

I really can't complain about them even if there isn't reason to throw them. There are times when the racing is so spread out and boring that i end up begging for a "debris" caution.

I'm very curious to see what kind of TV deal Brian France can get when this current contract is up considering the declining ratings since this current deal came into play in 2007 I believe.

Childress wants more fan input about letting the #3 come back.... He discussed something like only a Dillon or a Earnhardt will ever drive that number...

Personally I think it needs to be retired... Dale Jr says he thinks it should be back in NASCAR...

I also heard that if Childress decides to let it back in nascar he would redesign how the number 3 would look. I personally don't mind seeing it back out on the track. Dale Sr. was my fav driver till he passed away. I think its been out of nascar long enough and should be used again.

With that said i really hope it goes to a good driver. It would be a disgrace to have a driver that can't compete or wrecks all the time driving the #3.

Yeah I remember him saying he would change the look of it if he gives it to his grandson... Those are some very very big shoes to fill....

Yeah i mean from what i have seen Dillon looks like he has a bright future but so did Logano.

It's Richards number and it was his before it was even Earnhardt's so he can really do whatever he wants with it. But i think it would be awesome to see the #3 out on the track again as long as who ever is driving it is successful enough not to bring shame to the 3

If Dillon is smart, he will not run the 3 in Cup. The expectations would be astronomical. So much pressure would be put on his shoulders.

Yeah but he seems to really want it. It almost seems like he doesn't view it as Earnhardt's number but views at his grandfather's number (which it is). He asked RC if he could use it in the trucks and nationwide and has said he loves driving his grandfathers number. So i think if he can he will take it in the sprint cup

no, dont retire it. I was the furthest thing from an Earnhardt fan, however I will always respect him and I acknowledge what he did for the sport, but you cant retire the number. I have no problem with Childress keeping the number and just not using it.

Numbers are ment to be retired in sports..... Unless the owner/player/or family member says otherwise and right now Austin has Richards and Dale Jrs blessing... So he probably will drive the 3 ala it will look different but will the majority of NASCAR fan approve?

I know i wouldn't and i was an Earnhardt fan. I would love to see the #3 racing around the track. But like i said i want a driver that will respect the number and be successful in it. I would hate to see some guy wrecking in it every week or finishing outside the top 20 every race.

I think it will be 50/50. Some want to see it and some don't.
