Well it really depends on the avenue in which they take to get to the NHL. If they go the Junior route (no matter what their nationality is) then they can't go to the AHL till they are 20yrs old or 4 years in Juniors.

IIRC if a player is an international (not in the CHL) then they can come over as early as 18yrs old and play in the AHL. Here is what the age eligability says on AHL.com

What is the minimum age for an AHL player?

Per AHL By-Laws, the age limit for eligibility to compete in the American Hockey League is 18 years or over, on or before September 15 of each season of competition.
In the case of Larsson, he was drafted out of the SEL and has no ties to the CHL. It's because of this that he is able to be sent down to play in the AHL although he's only 19.

    Thanks for the info oneman

Another thing i don't get is how 18 is old enough to play in the NHL but not the AHL....in the case they are coming out of the CHL

    2012 Bruins Offseason Thread v2.0

It's so that the CHL can keep their players. If players under 20 were allowed to play in the AHL once drafted, and even if only half did, then the quality of play in the CHL would suffer.

It makes sense...plus I'm sure it was a thing the NHLPA wanted to allow some of the older players a spot in the AHL

TKHO (The Kid's Hockey Organization) is recruiting 3 new GMs for a hockey simulation game. Our area on the forum is here. It's a sim-game, but it's not. It's more of a sim/text hockey league. Let me know if anyone's interested.

Apparently Tuukkas injury is pretty minor.

I know the real reason for this lockout. When Tim Thomas announced he was taking the year off, the rest of the league thought it was a good idea and they followed him.
