Do you guys seriously think in Chicago, New York, Toronto, Los Angeles all the major sports cities people rather watch the blackhawks, rangers, leafs, kings over the Lakers, Clippers, Raptors, Bulls...

Just look at the amount of posters in the NHL forum compared to the NBA forum its retty easy to see

It really depends. I'm from Philly and hockey is huge there. I would say it depends on how the indivual teams are doing. More people in America are familar with basketball as a sport and overall basketball is more popular. However, hockey has a more steady fanbase. The Rangers, Flyers, and Blackhawks usually sellout games even when the team is bad...not sure the same can be said for the NBA games. So I guess it depends on how you define your question. Basketball appeals to more people simply because its easier to learn or play. Hockey is expensive to play and ice skating in general is difficult. But I would say if you aksed people in Philly to list their fav sports it would go 1) football-Eagles, 2-A) baseball-Phillies, 2-B) hockey-Flyers, and 4 NBA-Sixers

Correct...there is a list of players in the rules under the new rule. It's all players that have yet to be listed.

Nobody watched the NHL finals this year because it was boring as ****.

Compare it to last years numbers.

No you had 2 of the top sports cities involved and they still couldn't get good viewers?? THat obviously has to tell you something.

Doug Maclean said last week on the radio the NHL's revenue sharing has been predominantly been carried by 3 or 4 markets while the rest have lived with severe problems. The same doesn't apply for basketball.
Now NHL has more parity IMO I'll give you guys that much but other then that NHL can't keep up with the NBA never have and never will be able to. If it wasn't for Toronto, New York, and I cant remember the other 2 he said the NHL would be like lacrosse.

this gets better and better... LA and NJ aaren't hockey cities... at all... Toronto, Vancouver, Minnesota, Boston, Philly, Montreal, Detroit, etc. THOSE are hockey cities... you picked LA which has probably the biggest NBA Market in the USA, and still Basketball is probably second to Baseball in LA. Hockey Markets are becoming more broad, and when Phoenix moves, and hopefully Florida.. Hockey will have taken over Basketball.. it probably won't be close either. Basketball SEEMS more popular simply because of those douchebags on ESPN.. that's all.

Of course basketball is more popular in America...most of our cities don't have hockey weather like they do in Canada. However, you're hockey forum on PSD vs basketball forum on PSD argument does not hold water. Hfboards has an entire message board donated to hockey.The Leafs forum on that site has double or triple the Raptors posters on here and the Sixers site is even or possibly less then the Flyers site on there...maybe PSD is not popular for hockey because theres an entire site dedicated to it?

Also the NHL would easily be carried by canadian teams and quite a few american teams dont believe me look at this.

the nba only had 9 teams averageing a sell out and they were the top teams or big market teams(hell the lakers didnt sell out) on top of that there worse attendance record was 65.3% sold (Pistons)

the nhl had 16 teams averageing a sellout, and around a 3rd of those sellouts came from bad teams. on top of that the issue that phoenix is having with attendance they still had a better ticket sales percent than the pistons, so i guess the nhl really is in a worse position...

on top of that i watch both sports, i see bad officating in hockey but if the clowns(nba refs) keep calling teh game like they are atm they are going to lose a lot of fans and fast

yeah...you can't exactly play pond hockey on the tar pits in LA. Also, the Kings were twice as popular as the Clippers until maybe a year ago. Basketball fans are more fair weather fans...they come and go depending on how the franchise is doing. As a whole, basketball is more popular because most markets are warm climate. However, hockey is beginning to take off in LA, Carolina, Tampa, Anaheim, ect.

Also New Jersey isn\t a sports market?? They have the Nets now, they have the Jets or Giants and they have the NY mets I believe. How aren't they a top sports market??

attendance is based on a real demographic and is actually based of a substantial amount of people, psd considers however many members there are which is in no way the same amount of people living in the nba/nhl teams area. On top of that those factors that you mentioned all cities have to deal with it, all teams have to deal with it, but we see with a proper sample size what is selling out more often and more consistently

and no **** if you take this to the general discussion board they will say basketball is more followed, there are more basketball related members on this site

You're argument was about the bigger markets and that's not correct. In Detroit, Philly and Toronto, I would say hockey is bigger. In Chicago, New York, New Jersey, Minnesota, Caolina, Boston...I would say it depends on how each team is doing but its close...but on a whole basketball is more popular. Also, basketball signed a new 10 year CBA last year that will continue to make the sport more unpopular. The Lebron decision started a downfall in this sport that will allow the players complete control. You said it yourself...Hockey has more parody. That normally leads to more popularity. In every sport, including basketball, the small market teams suffer. The finanicaly system in hockey is 2nd only to football in creating parody. This will allow small market teams to stay competitive, such as LA this year and TB/Carolina just recently...basketball doesn't have that and fans are tiring of it...before the end of the current NBA CBA, hockey will be more popular...book it!

Also, football dominates everything, so does it even matter.
