I quickly read comments somewhere this signing of Haley was done to reduce the burden of fighting on McIlrath down at the Whale, and for player development. Rangers' management seem to believe Haley has the capacity to improve at forechecking and special situation play. Either way, if the only reason is to cut the number of fights McIlrath might engage in, it's a good signing.

This makes me feel a lot better about the signing.

Sather is trying to build the Whale up with vets and tough players. That's because he has 3 or 4 prospects that have a legit chance of making the team. He doesn't want McIlrath fighting every game. Yogan and Thomas are legit prospects. Miller obviously is a big prospect for us. They need protection and some vets to develop with.
