    Braves Sign Ben Sheets

    Braves Sign Ben Sheets

The Braves announced that they have signed pitcher Ben Sheets to a minor league deal. The right-hander will make his first start on July 4th for the team's Double-A affiliate.

Sheets, 33, will now work his way towards returning to a big league mound for the first time since July 19th, 2010 when he was with the A's. The Louisiana native had a 4.53 ERA with 6.3 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 through 20 starts that season with Oakland before having to undergo flexor tendon surgery.

As MLBTR first reported, Sheets threw for scouts from the Phillies, Braves, Yankees, and Angels two weeks ago. The pitcher apparently wanted to wait until he was 100% before returning to baseball.

I'm pulling for him. Always was a fan of Sheets. Does Sheets crack ATL's roster before seasons end?

WAY too injury prone, and after all these surgeries he'll never be the same Sheets. Best of luck to him though

If there's anyone who can put the Braves on his back, throw 3 perfect games in the World Series, and win the Cy Young in half a season, it's this man.

Hell, right now Blaine Boyer could possibly make the team as bad as the Braves starters have been.

    Stem cells?

Sheets was my favorite pitcher back when he was healthy, painting 98 on the corners, and showing off that curveball of doom. I hope he went with stem cells.

Makes me wonder, is Brandon Wood doing anything?
To those that do not know mathematics it is difficult to get across a feeling as to the beauty, the deepest beauty of baseball. If you want to learn about baseball, to appreciate baseball, it is necessary to understand the language she speaks.

Stinking it up in the PCL with a .258 avg, Angels could of traded him for so many players from 2005-2008

I'm guessing you mean Brandon Webb. He was last heard of in February, getting ready to throw for some teams. I imagine it didn't go well, if only because this was noted BEFORE he threw: "The right-hander was struggling to hit 85 mph on the radar gun at last check."

Sheets is a power arm who also has some finesse and knows how to make hitters look retarded. I could see him coming back strong.
