    Report: Lewis on Spurs' radar

Written by Trevor Zickgraf | 03 July 2012

Up until this season, Rashard Lewis was the second highest paid player in the NBA. His contract was so high the Orlando Magic actually took on Gilbert Arenas' contract just to get rid of it. Well times have changed a bit for Lewis. He was recently traded to the New Orleans Hornets, who then waived him and his partially guaranteed contract. Now Lewis is looking to hook up with a new team and according to the New York Post's Marc Berman, the San Antonio Spurs are on that list.

"A source told The Post Tuesday the Knicks were on Lewis’ short list, along with Miami, the Lakers, San Antonio and Atlanta."

Lewis was dreadful for the Wizards last season. He averaged 7.8 ppg and 3.9 rpg. Even worse, he shot 24 percent from three. His numbers before last season aren't terrible, but still show a steady decline as he's gotten older. However, Lewis is a guy who was used to being on a winning team, so it could just be that he really didn't care last season since the Wizards were such a mess. This is similar to Boris Diaw's last season in Charlotte. It seemed like he just didn't care and numbers reflected that.

    Rashard Lewis Eyeing Five Teams
July 3 at 3:37pm CST By Luke Adams

When Rashard Lewis clears waivers, he'll likely be looking to sign with one of five teams, according to the New York Post's Marc Berman. Berman names the Knicks, Heat, Spurs, Hawks, and Lakers as the clubs on Lewis' "short list."

Despite being released by the Hornets, Lewis will still earn nearly $14MM in guaranteed salary from New Orleans, so he isn't expected to be seeking another big payday this summer. According to Berman, Lewis has interest in the $3.09MM mini mid-level exception, and could potentially be persuaded to sign for the veteran's minimum for the right opportunity with a title contender.
Yesterday we heard that Lewis' agent Tony Dutt has had multiple conversations with the Heat. If Lewis is seeking a chance at a championship, Miami figures to be the favorite over New York, as Berman points out in his article.

    Marcus Camby Considering Six Teams
July 3 at 1:06pm CST By Zach Links

TUESDAY, 1:06pm: Camby has updated his wish list, replacing the Celtics with the Nets, tweets Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports. The timing is a little odd, as Brooklyn committed its mid-level exception to Mirza Teletovic today, so Camby would have to sign for the bi-annual exception or veteran's minimum to end up in Brooklyn.

The Rockets, Knicks, Heat, Spurs, and Mavericks are Camby's other options.

MONDAY, 1:08pm: Returning to Houston is Camby's top choice, says Chris Tomasson of FOX Sports Florida (Sulia link).
11:21am: Jared Zwerling of ESPNNewYork.com hears from a source close to Camby that the big man is prioritizing a starting role as he decides on a destination (Twitter link).

SUNDAY, 8:38pm: Haynes has updated his report to include the incumbent Rockets in the group to go along with the Knicks, Heat, Spurs, Celtics, and Mavs.

7:40pm: Marcus Camby has narrowed his choices to the Knicks, Heat, Spurs, Celtics, and Mavericks, a league source told Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com. The unrestricted free-agent center recieved calls from several other teams after July 1st but the source says that Camby is only considering teams in contention for a title.

With the Knicks probably not in the mood to match the Landry Fields’ three-year, $19 million offer sheet, their interest in recently bought- out veteran forward Rashard Lewis should increase. A source told The Post Tuesday the Knicks were on Lewis’ short list, along with Miami, the Lakers, San Antonio and Atlanta. New York Post

Thank you for your assessment, do you have a suggestion on where one of those can be found? Have you seen the FA list? There is not many options at this point, and I have no desire to overpay a stiff just so we can say that we have a center.

Report: Spurs interested in Brandon Bass

Written by Paul Garcia | 05 July 2012

According to KABB Fox San Antonio, a league source has told Max Sports the San Antonio Spurs are interested in Boston Celtics free agent forward Brandon Bass.

Though he's 6'8", just like DeJuan Blair, Bass has an established outside jump shot (49% from mid-range) in his arsenal that Blair has yet to develop. Bass is also similar to Blair on offense in which he's a tough body underneath the rim and plays a very physical style to make up for his small height.

This past season with the Celtics, Bass averaged 12.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and shot 48% from the field. He would still leave the Spurs' frontcourt undersized on defense as he doesn't have the size to be an effective shot blocker and is still a mismatch in defensive rebounding.

This being the key phrase. And in order to get this we will pay him 5mil+. I have never really liked the guy and a large part of that is the money he is making. He is a great player for 1 or 2 million, but not for last seasons salary or for the salary that it will take to get him. No thanks. I will take a slightly worse Blair at a much friendlier price and get almost identical production this year with no long term commitment.

^ Not a huge fan of Buchers work but Kaman is still a possibility.

Report: Spurs have shot at landing Kaman

Written by Paul Garcia | 05 July 2012

According to ESPN's Ric Bucher, the San Antonio Spurs still have a possible shot at landing New Orleans Hornets center Chris Kaman.

Bucher tweeted the Spurs, along with the Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, and Utah Jazz are all still in contention to land Kaman.

Thus far, the only team to meet with Kaman has been the Pacers when they learned free agent Roy Hibbert was offered a max deal with the Portland Trailblazers. The Pacers haven't decided if they'll match the Blazers' deal on July 11, which means Kaman would be their plan B if they lose Hibbert.

Bucher didn't specify what kind of deal Kaman is looking for, but he could definitely get more minutes with the Mavericks, Pacers, and Spurs. If you recall, Kaman was allowed to play with Dirk Nowitzki and Germany recently, so he has the Dallas connection, but the Mavs look like a lottery roster right now with their three best players being Nowitzki, Shawn Marion, and Vince Carter.
