If he doesn't get something substantial for Lu now he is getting fired. I am officially worried when salo leaves.

Not too concerned about what Gillis is doing. He isn't breaking the bank for undersized forwards. Parise and Suter will be overpaid. Apparently Garrison left $ on the table offered by other teams by signing here. Realistically I was hoping we didn't do much in the FA area. I was hoping for Gaustad and Prust but they got too much $ for what they bring.
Gillis has to do some good with a Luongo deal. He will also have to make some other moves when you consider no Kes for a while.
I'd like to see a decent return on Lu and deal Ballard. That will give us lots of room to clear room for a deal and maybe take a real stab at Shea Weber next summer (if not before in a trade).
What if Gillis can't trade Lu? What if Florida doesn't want to give up what Gillis wants, and there's a stalemate? Would Lu expand on which teams he wants to go to? Or is there the possibility that he could be our backup in Vancouver this season?
Reason I bring all this up, is because I don't like how this is being played out. It's now well known that Lu wants to go to Florida, but this puts the Canucks over a barrel and gives the Panthers a leg up in negotiations, you would think. What happens if we can't unload Lu and his hefty contract and get something good in return?
How awkward will that be in the Canucks room?
Gillis is a patient, stubborn man (almost to a fault) and if he's asking too much and stands pat, we may be stuck with Lu.
Thoughts on this possible scenario?
Jagr just signed a one-year contract with Dallas for $4.5 million. Looks like the Stars are making a bit of a splash this off-season, bringing in Roy, Whitney, Rome and Jagr.
The Wild just signed both Suter and Parise for 12 years, each making $7.5 million a season. Crazy.
Seems some teams in the West are adding big pieces, which doesn't bode well for the Canucks. Are we living in the past? Are we relying too much on the Sedins to carry us back to the Cup final? Gillis is so cautious, I wonder if he'll really go for it by signing at least one star player (an old Sundin for 3 months is not what I mean), or if he thinks we're good enough right now to get back there.
Maybe I'll feel better after we trade Lu and hopefully get someone of real value in return.
I made an error - Suter and Parise signed 13-year contracts
I'm with you. I don't expect him to make a huge splash but Jagr would have helped and he could have been affordable. Seems he's taking the approach that we have to get younger and our vets are going to carry us as before.
Remove aging vet role players, insert young talent, hope for success.

Damn, the Jets just signed (G) Al Montoya for $601,000 !!! Now that's a contract we could live with. I thought Gillis might have been pursuing him, as a backup to Schneids, but maybe not? Makes me wonder what's going on, what Gillis has in the hopper. Geez, I hope he has something going on. I can hear it now, "okay Lu, Schneids, you'll each play 41 games this year".![]()
Don't worry man. Luongo will still be moved, and Lack will be our backup this season. We have a plan. I hope. If not, I have a plan. But I am not GM so were screwed.
