    Well Semin's off the market:
    http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news....L%7CCAR%7Chome

Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with left wing Alexander Semin (SEH-min) on a one-year contract. The deal will pay Semin $7 million for the 2012-13 season.

“We have done a lot of research about Alexander, and discussions about his fit with our team have included people at many different levels of our organization, including players, coaches and staff,” said Rutherford. “What’s been clear throughout this process was his commitment to wanting to play in the NHL, and compete against the world’s best players.
The real question, Devils fans, is who is our next target from free agency, if any?

    Matteau! Matteau! Matteau!

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/devils-...9551--nhl.html

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- The New Jersey Devils have signed first-round draft pick Stefan Matteau to an entry-level contract.

Devils president and general manager Lou Lamoriello announced the signing on Tuesday without disclosing details.

Matteau, the son of former Rangers forward Stephane Matteau, was the 29th overall pick in June. Stephane scored two double-overtime goals in the 1994 conference finals as New York eliminated New Jersey en route to the Stanley Cup.

''Stefan Matteau is a size-and-strength power forward,'' Lamoriello said, ''who we consider to be one of our top prospects.''

The 18-year-old Matteau spent the past two seasons with the United States Development Program. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound forward skated in 46 games for the Under-18 squad in 2011-12, recording 15 goals and 32 points. He played for Team USA's Under-17 team in 2010-11, posting seven goals and 11 assists.

Matteau will play in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. His father is an assistant coach with that team.

Losing Zach was obviously a huge blow for us but if Henrique continues to improve off of his season then we could still have a good first line.

Yeah losing Zach really hurt, but hey if he wants to stink it up in Minny then let him... We have money to spend next year by not signing him

After losing Parise, the Devils are done. IMO, they were lucky to get past Florida in the first round and went on a fluke run.

The devils will still make the playoffs bearing any major injury. One player does not bring you to the cup.
And fluke run... Devils have been one of the best hockey teams for the last 20 years, no fluke

Perhaps, but it's important to remember that LA's run to the Cup this year was remarkable in that they were so dominant. Rarely do teams excel in the regular season and then straight through each round of the playoffs. So often in sports a team that "just makes it" ends up going all the way.

How often have we seen teams the Detroit Red Wings dominate the regular season and get KO'd in the first round, or the Florida Marlins squeak in as Wild Cards and go all the way? Come to think of it, I could make a solid argument that the Kings themselves were lucky to make the playoffs as the 8th spot, but we all know what they did afterward.
