2012 Devils Offseason

Hey guys, I know that we have a thread already open on this, but, it has posts from 2009 so I figured I'd start a new one for this year. I also saw that there was a couple of posts for this year already but I figured a fresh new one would look better. Heres to hopefully a great offsean!

what's the boards thoughts on the draft? lots of forwards selected, i thought there was need for defense. i guess they'll be targeting some defenseman/goalie in free agency.

I think theres a definite need for denfenseman. we have somewhere around 28 million to spend, a good chunk of that will have to go to Parise to keep him here and we should still have at least 20-22 million left. Other UFA forwards are Poni, Carter, Sykora, Bernier, and Gionta. That could take about another 9-10 million off the board. leaving between 10-12 million left to sign D/G Brodeur will be another 2 and we should call Frazee, Wedgewood, or Cleremont up to learn for a year or 2 under Brodeur. This would mean we have 8-10 million at least to sign D-man. We already have Larsson, Greene, Volchenkov, Tallinder, and Zidlicky under contract and have offered Fayne a qualifying offer. IMO we should sign salvador to a 2 year contract worth about 3 million per season after showing how valuable he can be in the playoffs. Maybe we could go after Schultz sense it looks like he's not signing with ANA and we would have a solid D-corps for the future with:
Larsson - Schultz?
Merrill - Urbom
Tallinder - Volchenkov

With that being said should the devils not be able to keep Parise, we would have a lot of money to go into free agency with and maybe even be able to jump into the bidding for Ryan Suter

Parise just had a press confrence saying something like "Ive said all along how much I like playing in New Jersey. [We] want to try to get things worked out with New Jersey"

Hopefully he picks nj. Team can win but he needs to understand that we cant throw as much at him as another team could. Hopefully he figures out that the amount of money he will receive will still be miles ahead of any amount a normal person has

Also I seen Zach on ESPN yesterday and he said " just because I hit the market that does not mean the Devils are out by any means."
