"Rock" is such a broad term anyway.

That kind of describes my taste in rock.

Led Zeppelin, the Who, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Metallica, Disturbed, Offspring. All sorts of rock. Cant get into the beatles tho

I personally don't like the Beatles either. I respect what they did for the genre, but I think they are overrated as a result of nostalgia.

After the first 2, not necessarily in order

    Freddie Mercury
    Chris Cornell
    Robert Plant
    Paul McCartney
John Fogerty (maybe the not best singer technically, but I really like him)
    Brandon Flowers
    Eddie Vedder
    Brad Delp
    John Lennon
    Liam Gallagher

Honorable mentions: Jimi Hendrix, Roger Daltrey, Jim Morrison, Debbie Harry, Karen O

and I'm guessing solo singers don't count? Otherwise Roy Orbison makes my list easily

Sorry if you were serious, I don't mean to smash on your guy, but in no way, shape or form does Chris Martin belong as the answer to this thread, despite music taste being an opinion.

Don't let my GF read this, I have to see Coldplay Monday night here in Houston. She worships them. FML
Chris Martin is awesome! I have never even heard of half the singers listed in this thread. I don't listen to most older music. Chris Martin is awesome. I would also throw Bono, John Rzeznik, and Rob Thomas on the list.

I was going to put this one on my list, too. While he doesn't have the best voice, I just love listening to it.

Heavily distorted guitar tone on Helter Skelter? Yes.

Is that dark, evil, heavy, foreboding feel that typically defines all heavy metal present in Helter Skelter though? Definitely not.

Beatles are all about love, sweet melodies, and uplifting rhythms. All of that kind of stuff has nothing to do with metal. No knock on the Beatles, but I don't think they could make any band look like pansies....let alone the godfathers of heavy metal.
I see what you mean but you have to take into account when the song was released. You don't think Helter Skelter heavily influenced a lot of what Black Sabbath was doing? I'm only talking about the one particular song, as it was the only Beatles song of its kind. I did not feature uplifting rhythms and sweet melodies lol. Helter Skelter is harsh. Its definitely metal.

Btw i was in the moment when i said the pansies thing. I don't really mean it. I enjoy early Black Sabbath.

I just realized my major omission from my list, and I can't believe I've made it all the way to page 4 and not a single person has mentioned....

Nobody knows who he is yet, but Soupy Campbell from the Wonder Years is the reason they're my favorite band, the reason I listen to the album The Upsides every day, and the reason I got one of his lyrics tattooed on my arm.
