This comes as no surprise. There were reports last week indicating that Laperriere would retire following the Cup final after sitting out the last two seasons while on long-term injured reserve. Signed by the Flyers in the summer of 2009, he played all 82 games in '09-10 and 13 in the postseason as the Flyers made a run to the Cup final. Laperriere suffered a severe facial injury and concussion in the opening seriesd against New Jersey, but returned to the lineup for the conference final and Cup round. In all or part of 16 seasons, "Lappy" recorded 336 points in 1,084 games.
Thanks for everything Laps...class act player hope you stay on comcast staff!!!

A shame we only had him for one season, one of the classiest guys in the NHL. Hope he stays with the organization

I'm proud to have been a fan of a team this man played for. Really can't say that for a lot of athletes in sports. The man was a true competitor, teammate, and blue-collar player in every sense.

I, too, hope he stays with the organization in some capacity.

    Love ya, Lappy.

It's a shame your time was so short in a Philadelphia sweater, but in that short time you completely embodied Flyers hockey. Thank you, Lappy.

Class act all the way, had the heart of a true warrior and was possibly the toughest SOB to ever play the game. Dont know many other guys that would block a shot with his face and be playing a month later and then with post consusion syndrome would hold off retirement for 2 years so he didnt mess up his teams cap.

Nice to see a mucker rewarded for his efforts on the ice and in the locker room.

Always great to have your career cut short while you're in Philly........Hatcher, Lappy lead the list of guys that get asked to have jobs in this organization...we have to lead the league in hiring guys that played for us.....Has there every been anyone who's been on the Phantoms coaching staff that HASN'T played for the organization at some point....
