Best Pitcher in NY? Sabathia or Santana

I'm in a debate with one of my friends on who the best pitcher in NY. I feel as though Santana Before and After Surgery is a better pitcher. Sure he doesn't pitch in the AL and doesn't have the win. But Wins are an emtpy statistic that doesn't measure true value of a player. And Sabathia plays for the high scoring Yankees.

However, to answer your question I say to tell your friend he is wrong and you are right. CC isnt great by any means. The only reason he gets so much hype is cause he plays for the big market Yanks. His ERA is over 3 almost every year. He gets wins because of his teams offense. Johan pitches with NO RUN SUPPORT from the Mets. Besides for the no hitter, when he pitches he usually gets the loss 2-1, or 3-2. If Santana pitched for the Yankees he would have 20 wins every year. Thank you for dissagreeing with your friend, i wish more people would think like you.

Im obviously biased but all these people saying "CC and its not close" are absolutely nuts. it's absolutely close, but Johan wins. Johan was better before injuries and major shoulder surgery, and he's better right now. CC, on a medium market team that scores less runs than the Yankees, is viewed as a solid #1-2 pitcher. He's an "ace" cause he plays in NY and he gets a ton of wins. That's it.

Statistically Johan is very close to him or better than him in every category other than Wins.

Johan has better WHIP, better ERA, less walks, less hits, more CG, and etc. His IP is lower but he has also thrown less pitches. Johan has been statistically better than CC this year, CC has been rather hittable.

And you did not even include R.A. Dickey who is up there in SO, WHIP, ERA, Wins, IP, and etc. He has been fantastic and has actually gotten better every year in these past three. So this is no aberration either.

I'd say CC, Johan, and R.A. are all up there for best pitcher in NY.

Johan hasn't had a season with a WAR over 5.0 since 2006

CC hasn't had a season with less than 5.0 WAR in that span, including 3 years with over 7 WAR.
