Post Mannix: Rondo and Ray Allen had a strained relationship

    http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/th...friction-rondo
Allen conceivably could return to Boston, but Mannix said that decision might be affected by Allen's apparent struggles to get along with Rajon Rondo.

"I think there's no question that the relationship was strained over this year," Mannix said. "How strained is the key, and it's still a little bit unclear. There was some friction between those two. I think that could play a role in Ray's decision not to come back. Now, I agree, I think that Boston probably wasn't going to bring him back anyway, you're right, it's Avery Bradley's job and Ray isn't coming back to the Celtics to be a bench player, especially when he can be a bench player on a team that might be more likely to win a championship. But I think the relationship over the last year between Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo soured. Now, I'm not entirely clear as to how bad it got. But certainly I know that there was some legitimate, palpable friction between those two players and I think that will ultimately affect his decision in free agency."
These guys handled it so well, I never could've imagined there was problems like that.

I thought everyone on that team hated Rondo. Respected his ability, but hated his personality, even Doc.
    Magic. Red Sox. Colts. Knights.

That's fine and all, but Ray has to understand that even though he's probably one of the best 3 pt shooters in NBA history (behind Reggie IMO) that Rondo got him the best looks from 3 pt range than any PG that Ray played with, and in his time with Boston, Ray was aging every yr, but yet, looking better and better from 3 pt range.

Not Terrell Brandon or Sam Cassell in MIL or Luke Ridnour or Ronald Flip Murray in Seattle could get Ray those 3 pt looks. A lot of those 3 pt shots Ray had to manufacture a lot. But he was golden spoon fed by Rondo for 5 yrs in Boston, so whatever may be the friction between the two, Ray unquestionably benefited by playing in the backcourt with Rondo.

Don't think Ray is an effective player if he signs somewhere else for his last 2-3 yrs in the league and no Rondo.

For everyone who calls Rondo a ruthless goon, you gotta give him probs then for not ever making this public.

Now, lets see Ray put up numbers at this stage in his career without a playmaker like Rondo..

I don't see him being back with Boston. I wonder if the Celtics would accept Mike Miller in a sign in trade for him.

And all this time, I thought I was the only one who thought Rondo was an ***hole.

Get Ray to a young team with someone like Rubio dishing him the ball and I think he'll be alright.

All their players are so alike, I could never imagine there was conflict. Sure, maybe in the game, but off the court? Damn, never saw that coming. They look like a close knit group.

Rondo is supposedly incredibly eccentric, to say the least, off the court. He can be a bit tough to deal with supposedly.

But yay! Their season is over, the era might be over, and now it's gossip time!!!

I am sure his age is going to be a big reason as well. Not that he still can't shoot, but he does have a lot of miles on him.

He does seem like the type of player to get caught in an alley, wearing a dress.

I'm sure it's just the same type of dislike Allen has for Rondo as most NBA fans have for him. I doubt Rondo respects Ray any more than the rest of the team (or anyone) and Allen doesn't like that. While you may not see it on the court, you would just know that their personalities clash...
