Back up: Austin's injury news not so good
Marvin Austin thought the news on his injured back was good, but he probably should’ve checked with Tom Coughlin first.
The Giants coach was much more pessimistic about the back issue Austin described earlier as just “a little back ache”. In fact, Coughlin said the Giants are sending Austin for more tests. He also wouldn’t rule out the possibility that problem was structural – like a disc problem.
Needless to say, Austin will not play Saturday night against the Jets and at this point his entire preseason is probably in doubt.
“I don’t know,” Coughlin said. “They’re doing more tests. He said he felt pretty good today. A lot of the early symptoms were no longer there. But they’re going to do another set of tests on him. We’re hoping that within a reasonable amount of time he can come back and play.”
Asked if the initial tests showed anything structural, Coughlin said “I don’t know. Structural being what? They’re dealing with some issues there, yeah. I’m not going to tell you exactly what it was. We’re going to have to wait and see.”
