    The Fourth Reich

    Sulzer signed for next year. The Ehrhoff "the German canon"/Sulzer pair can continue.

    Do you know about the Sabres? I'm guessing no, so here's some education...

    The Sabres have two German defensemen now. They played together prior to the Sabres can sometimes even talk in German to each other.

    You don't need to know the Sabres to know that Ehrhoff and Sultzer are German.

    Do you know German? I'm going to guess no. The word Reich means "German State." Does having 2 German players make them a German state?

    The Third Reich was Nazi Germany. Are you implying that Ehrhoff + Sulzer are Nazis? If so, you should call your local sheriff's office ASAP.

    False. It means kingdom, realm or empire.

    The First Reich was the Holy Roman Empire, established in 962.
    The Second Reich was the unification of Germany under the Prussian Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1870.
    The Third Reich was when the National Socialist German Workers' Party was elected. Shortly thereafter in 1933, President Hindenburg appointed Hitler chancellor.

    The common thread in all of these empires is the belief that they had a divine mission to make the world a better place by their influence (regardless of whether that belief was misguided or not).

    Anyway, even if the two were nazis (they probably aren't) there wouldn't be anything wrong with that. We have plenty of socialists around, even in high political offices.

    I'm just foolin' around with all this, but do Sabres fans actually call Sultzer + Ehrhoff the Fourth Reich?

    No. I've been having some success with getting people to call Ehrhoff the German Canon though. Especially when he shot high and shattered the glass behind the net.
