I use to feel the same way but then I stopped and thought about it. I watch the Vikings on tv most the time anyways, NFL Sunday Ticket. I go to maybe one game a year if that. If they move I'm not going to blame Zygi or give up on my team. What I will do is make sure I never step foot in Minnesota EVER again and never spend a penny in their state. I'll also hope the NFL never gives them another franchise down the road.

It's a lot different for in state fans like me. I go to all the events I can (mostly training camp) and it wouldn't feel right cheering from them outside the state. I'd be done with football.

    Ryan Longwell - K - Vikings
    Vikings released K Ryan Longwell.
They'll move forward with sixth-round rookie Blair Walsh. Longwell, who turns 38 before the season, shanked 6-of-28 field-goal attempts last year in addition to one PAT. Opponents also had a lot of success returning kicks against the Vikings. It's still a questionable decision because Walsh went 21-for-35 on field goals as a college senior, connecting on just 54.8 percent of his attempts from beyond 30 yards. We suspect Longwell will find a new home quickly. The Vikings' kicking duties are on even shakier footing with the rookie Walsh.

Yet what Rotoworld fails to tell is how money he was before his senior year. Especially long distance. Not afraid.

I know how much money he was before senior year, I brought it up in his draft thread. He still has a long way to go before he's an elite NFL kicker. This is an inherently risky move because we're giving up on a known commodity (even if Longwell could be starting to fade) for an untested rookie, and we just put it all on the rookie's shoulders. They did do Longwell a bit of a favor here because now he has a good chance to catch on somewhere else.

I dunno where they are getting their numbers. I count 20 guys from 09 still on the team.

I meant starters. I was thinking that number was wrong, but it's real close.

Ya starters would be about right between offense and defense.

AD, Harvin, Sullivan, Loadholt, Jared Allen, Chad Greenway, Winfield and Kluwe.

    22 starters plus ST specialists

I think that it was the right time to cut ties with longwell in year one of the rebuild, rebuilding does not mean we will suck but we dont have a realistic shot to contend this year, and im thinking they really like walsh.

Vikings have 23rd ranked offensive line

Heading into the offseason, one of the biggest areas of concern for the Minnesota Vikings was the offensive line. Tormented by horrendous pass blocking and spotty run blocking, the Vikings offense struggled to get much going as the hog-mollies could rarely keep their opponents at bay.

At the conclusion of the 2011 season, Football Outsiders ranked the Vikings’ offensive line dead last in the NFL. Although Minnesota finished the season with a strong showing on the ground, their inability to keep rookie quarterback Christian Ponder off of the turf raised numerous red flags.

That led to the departure of a couple veterans, including guards Steve Hutchinson and Anthony Herrera, as the Vikings began their rebuilding project. The Vikings had their sights set on upgrading their blocking during the offseason, and made a couple of key acquisitions over the past two months in hopes of doing so.

So with the conclusion of the 2012 NFL Draft, Rotoworld’s Evan Silva decided to throw together a list of the NFL’s 32 offensive line units, ranking them based on their strength heading into the 2012 preseason.

According to Silva, the Vikings currently have the 23rd ranked offensive line in the NFL. His starters for the Vikings are as follows: LT Matt Kalil, LG Charlie Johnson, C John Sullivan, RG Geoff Schwartz, RT Phil Loadholt.

As expected, the Vikings took the draft’s top offensive line talent in USC’s Kalil. He’ll immediately upgrade the line and should prove to be a dominant blindside blocker. By adding him to the roster, Minnesota will be able to bump Johnson down to left guard, his more-natural position. Sullivan was a solid starter in 2011 and should continue to be the Vikings’ anchor in the middle of the offensive line. Schwartz was a tremendous and underrated addition who could eventually develop into a top-tier starter if he can stay healthy. Although Loadholt is a liability against the pass, he is a punishing run blocker whose experience makes him worth the risk. Silva also names G/C Brandon Fusco, OT Patrick Brown, G/C Joe Berger, G Chris DeGeare and OT DeMarcus Love as the Vikings’ top reserves.

Although Schwartz is penciled in as the Vikings’ starter at right guard, it’ll be interesting to see during the preseason if Fusco, a promising-yet-raw youngster, can push him for some playing time. Brown will likely provide depth behind Kalil and Loadholt as he continues to develop. Berger will fill the role of Sullivan’s backup and should provide emergency depth at both guard spots. DeGeare has shown some ability as a NFL-caliber blocker, but still has yet to reach his potential and shouldn’t see the field very often. Love is unlikely to see the field in 2012 as the Vikings continue to gauge his legitimacy as an NFL offensive lineman.

Twenty-third might not be the ideal ranking for a team hoping to protect its offensive assets better in 2012, but the improvement is already apparent. If Kalil pans out and Schwartz can plug in and make an immediate impact, there’s a good chance that the Vikings offensive line could be in the Top 15 by the end of the 2012 season.

Peterson says he'd be "very surprised" if he doesn't play in first game. Says he's been smart about the process, though.
