Angels Release Bobby Abreu

According to a few websites booby abreu was just released as an angel. right after the horrible lose to indians.

The Angels announced that they have released veteran Bobby Abreu. The outfielder was in the final season of his three-year contract extension with the Halos and is set to make $9MM.

The move will help pave the way for the promotion of Mike Trout, who is on his way from Triple-A, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times (via Twitter). Manager Mike Scioscia says that Trout "will play", DiGiovanna tweets, while MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez tweets that it seems that the 20-year-old will play everyday.

The slugger has been outspoken about his reduced role with the club since the offseason and there has been a great deal of speculation that his tenure with the Angels was coming to an end. The 38-year-old was said to be warming up to his backup role at the start of the season but Jerry Dipoto & Co. were said to be "feverishly" shopping him.

The Halos appeared to have a taker for Abreu in late March when they had advanced discussions with the Indians. The deal apparently fell apart over how much of Abreu's $9MM salary would be covered by the Angels.

About time, I thought he would be gone by Opening Day.

Wells should sit, but I doubt he will. I think Bourjos loses the most playing time from these moves.

If i'm in control this is what my lineup looks like

Scioscia wont give the leadoff spot to Trout though. I also dont see him sitting Wells on a daily basis, with maybe 2-3 starts a week. Trumbo's playing time is pretty much going to be nonexistent now as well, unless he starts playing 3B. The only ABs I see for him is DH on days a lefty is on the mound and 3B when Weaver is on the mound.

and just stick him in 3rd. not like we perfect anyways. let him learn

We should start Trumbo, Trout, and Hunter/Wells in the outfield. Let Bourjos work on his swing in the minors. Logjam averted.

Also, if Hatcher hasn't helped Pujols make an adjustment to hit inside pitches yet. Time to release Hatcher too. Pitiful.

actually i think hunter should be starting over wells. his power isnt really all there but his avg is good.

If Trumbo gets more playing time then Trout, then either Trout isn't ready, and there might be some cause for concern, or Scioscia is a terrible manager. If Trout can live up to the potential, he should smash Trumbo's WAR from last season in half a season.
