    Abreu?

    Was released.

Anyone have interest over Jones or Ibanez?

Girardi said Gardner still can't swing a bat.

Come to think of it, I'd like to snatch Brandon Inge. He can play 3rd and backup C.

Abreu had a bad attitude this season because of playing time. Also he won't much of an upgrade if any over Ibanez and Jones.

Ibanez> Abreu. We need Jones to play vs LHP. I like Abreu but unfortunately we have no room for him.

So Abreu was cut after throwing a fit for not having enough playing time and not being a starter... so lets sign him to be a platoon player and ride the bench?

I hated the Ibanez signing, but I don't think Abreu is an upgrade over anybody.

RAB had an interesting article on how we could sign him, send down Eppley, and give Abreu a week or so as an audition until Gardner comes back off the DL.

I still do not like the idea but for a week and we do not have to lose Ibanez makes sense to me. Might catch lightning in a bottle, however unlikely.

Not much is appealing about Abreu at this point. He wouldn't be an upgrade over Ibanez so there would be no point in pursuing him.

no way. the yanks been down that road before. the guy is not a winner, he isn't clutch, and he is past his prime. i disliked him the first time he was here i couldn't imagine having to look at his face a second time.

Inge is going to sign with the A's, where he will probably be their clean up hitter.

Saw that. Would have liked him on the roster. Seems like a gritty type we could use.

Nah we don't need Abreu. Not as good against lefties as Jones, not as much pop as Ibanez. And about Inge, for the amount of playing time he would receive, I'd still prefer Chavez's glove to his. And for catching, Stewart seems to be doing quite well so far behind Martin. Honestly, I don't think we really need much help unless it's for a SP like Hamels around midseason, which might not even be necessary with the depth of our farm.

Offer abreu minor league deal tell him he can work out in our minors if someone else goes down he's up. And during this he's free to talk to any team but al east unless approval given by cashman and can opt out any time but not to sign with Al east without approval. Let's him stay fresh we have a good backup plan. When did we almost trade for him? Was it before or after ibanez?
