Willes: NHLís skill teams are out, but Gillis says Canucks wonít change

Wait, you mean what we saw in the post-season was an offence-oriented team?? Mike, did you ever think that maybe the guys aren't skilled enough to play that way? Except in the regular season against patsies in the NW division? We don't exactly have a roster full of Malkins ....

How can Gillis still believe his team is a skill team?

ďI still believe offence is a critical part of the National Hockey League,Ē he said. ďIím not going to change from that. Thereís success that goes in cycles and, perhaps, we were on the wrong side of the cycle this season. But it isnít reserved to just us.Ē

Offense big part of the game yet he traded one of our best offensively skilled players for a 4th line plug.
So Anna, what do you think about the notion that Russell Wilson is better than Andrew Luck?

"[He's] a really complete player... There's not really any weaknesses to his game." - Bill Belichick on Andrew Luck
"Luck has the most diverse skill set of any NFL quarterback" - Ron Jaworski on Andrew Luck being a top 5 QB

Nope. Not sick of Gillis at all. The franchise has never done better and he has a lot to do with that. No idea why you guys are bashing him.

Yes, we have a fast, skilled team.

My only issue is the NHL playoffs are called differently than the regular season. The Canucks cannot handle size and get the garbage goals like many teams tend to do in the playoff season. Sure, we get some but we pay the price and it's not going to work in the long run.

Nothing wrong with skill. We just need guys that can get the dirty goals.

NHL playoff hockey is quite ugly and lame but that is what we have to deal with until the refs call penalties consistently. Playoff penalties/officiating is impossible to predict...they is no continuity and who knows what gets called from one game to the next. Often nothing gets called and we get to see scrum hockey for 2 months lol.

I just don't get what he wants right now. We had speed and skill, and then made us less skilled and slower, now he says we should be more skilled?

If you mean unskilled by dealing CoHo, I don't think that was his intent. CoHo wanted to be gone and he was a headache. He's gone. I have no idea why they want Mason back. He was given a lot of opportunity and was just awful. Skilled, big players are rare but I see he is looking for those. Until he can get some for a reasonable price, I guess he'll take what he can get without breaking the bank or mortgaging our future.

It is tough to figure out where he is going with the team. I hope we can get a Cup team going this season.
