The only knock on Shero is his drafting. Staal is the only NHLer he has drafted to date. I think that will change soon though.

Simon Despres, Dustin Jeffrey, Joe Vitale have all been drafted by shero and done well or look to have roles this year.

Angelo Esposito was a big part of hossa trade so even though he has done much in nhl he did well for us

Carl Sneep and Brian Strait have played well in call ups and done very well in minors

it is kinda early to grade 2012, 2011, 2010 drafts yet give it another year or two

2009 we got depres and Philip Samuelsson both show huge promise

2008 we only had 4 picks with first one being 120 so round 4

so Sheros drafts are not as bad as thought if you look at them. that said in 2-3 years if some of the picks dont start to pan out ya his drafting can be said to be poor

Late reaction for me but if I understand correctly, they tried extending him and he didn't want what we offered. So we did what any sane team would do and traded him before the value we could have for him lowered.
It also opens us up for other top players that might cost a penny or two.

Ya that's pretty stupid, you wanted to keep him for one more year so he could walk away and leave you with nothing? He didn't want to play in Pittsburgh anymore and the GM did the right thing and moved him for a decent package. Also freed up room to sign Parise. Good move IMO

No... he didnt want to be a #3 center any more.
    Trade Malkin.
Make Staal #2 Center = more MPG + good wingers.
    Staal Accepts 10 yr Contract.
Malkin Salary > Staal Salary = Enough room to sign Parise + someone else.

Its not that he didnt want to be in pittsburgh anymore or that he didnt want to be #3 center really.

He said he loved it here. Staal wanted an expanded role on the team and he was not going to get that playing center here. He wanted to be with his brothers.

Trade malkin is insane because then this happens trade malkin and when Staal still rejects 10 year offer and then leaves for nothing The pens got nothing.

Staal was going to test the market. The only reason he will consider signing in carolina is because that is where two of three brothers are and family is a major factor to the staals. All four of the brothers have said it is their dream to play together in nhl someday.

Are you kidding me Malkin at 8.5 over stall at 6 mill which is what he just signed. Malkin brings more and just won MVP. And we already have enough to offer parise and others deals your argument has no basis
