    Jeff Bagwell '94 v. Albert Pujols '03

    Which season was more impressive?
    Bagwell:
    Code:
PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+
    479 400 104 147 32 2 39 116 15 4 65 65 .368 .451 .750 1.201 213
    Pujols
    Code:
PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+
    685 591 137 212 51 1 43 124 5 1 79 65 .359 .439 .667 1.106 187

Bagwell by far. Even if Bagwell's raw numbers were a bit worse than Pujols' it was a season in the freakin Astrodome.

Frank Thomas' 94 was better than Pujols as well.

Bagwell's season, even if some of his percentage numbers were inflated because he had more than 200 less plate appearances. He hit a home run every 10 times he went up to bat

    Neutralized slash:

    JB: .369/.453/.752

    AP: .357/.437/.666

    Not very close.

Normally I can be a skeptic and say "If ____ played a/the full season, who knows he could have gone into a major slump or we don't what would have happened..." With Bagwell in '94, I don't think that was possible. He was insane. That was such a fun season and then made my last month of summer vacation less important.

Also, I think Pujols' 08 season was better then his 03 season. In 08 his slg was 14 points lower, but his obp was 23 points higher. His wOBA for the two years was .462 in 03 and 458 in 08. They're pretty close.

Yes everyone knows he broke his hand. So in terms of quantity Pujols's year was worth more, but in terms of rates, forget it.

In 69.9% as many PA's Bagwell's season was worth 81.7% as much as Pujols's (per rWAR)

Bags. Any time you ask "was Bagwell's [awesome season] better than [random player's] [awesome season]"....

The answer is always "Bagwell", unless of course the other player is Frank Thomas.

Bagwell's easily especially when you consider he only played until August and Pujols played a full season.
    Favourite Teams:

    Boston Red Sox: 22-16
Indianapolis Colts: Decent draft, no new wide reciever though.
Detroit Pistons: Looking forward to the draft and whoever the new coach will be
Ottawa Senators: Onto Round 2 vs. Pittsburgh, Game 1 tomorrow night

    Beautiful:

200 additional plate appearances, that's hard to make up
To those that do not know mathematics it is difficult to get across a feeling as to the beauty, the deepest beauty of baseball. If you want to learn about baseball, to appreciate baseball, it is necessary to understand the language she speaks.

Unless of course you are talking about Barry Bonds

No. This is 1993. The Player's strike was 1994.
