If free agency and trades never existed

I saw this in the MLB forum and i thought it would be interesting for the NBA too. If your teams roster was strictly based on its draft choices and undrafted free agent signings, what would your starting 5 be? Draft day trades still count as trades, so therefore the team who officially drafted them has their rights. For example, Kevin Love would be on the Grizzlies and O.J. Mayo would be on the Timberwolves.

It was like that until the 70s. The Knicks would have some really good picks though...

Thats not really a fair question because some teams build through free agency and trades (lakers, celtics) and either trade away their draft picks or are mid to late 20's, while a team like spurs and thunder have relied on their drat choices throughout the years

Big market teams don't need to be good at drafting. In the MLB forum the Yankee's were awful because all of their acquisitions are free agents, same with a lot of the big market teams in the NBA. Although the Lakers and Celtics would both still be solid teams with Kobe and Bynum and Pierce and Rondo, the Knicks or Heat would not. By the way I'm not trying to troll or offend anyone by saying this.

    Rockets

    Aaron Brooks
    Rudy Gay
    Nicolas Batum
    Patrick Patterson
    Joel Pryzbilla

    Notable Bench Players

    Jeremy Lamb
    Chandler Parsons
    Steve Novak

By the way, the Yankees weren't awful in the MLB. They were middle of the road.

The Heat would still have the following...

    Chalmers/Cole
    Wade/M. Thorton
    Caron Butler/Beasley/D. Wright
    Haslem/Arnett Moultrie/Jason Smith/Wayne Simeon
    Pittman/?

Definitely not elite but solid nonetheless.

How can you have a starting 5 with LJ, Alonzo and Davis? LJ was out of the league even before CP3 came into the league. the question posed wasn't an all-time team it was how would your team look today.

    Boston Celtics:
    Chauncey Billups/Delonte West/Avery Bradley
    Joe Johnson/Tony Allen/MarShon Brooks/Dahntay Jones/Randy Foye
    Paul Pierce/Jeff Green
    Jared Sullinger/Luke Harangody
    Al Jefferson/Fab Melo/Semih Erden

I left out Ryan Gomes and Gerald Green because I like all of those shooting guards more than both of them. Also, if this is really how the league worked, Antoine Walker would've been with this group for quite a long time before he disappeared from the league. Apparently the Celtics have drafted a CRAZY amount of guards over the past decade...

Kobe was drafted by the Hornets and Rondo was drafted by the Suns.

except with Kobe there (as someone mentioned, he was traded to them anyway), no way the Hornets are so bad that they land CP3 and AD later on.
