What about free agency this year? Just off the top of my head there should be $25M coming off the books (Chipper retiring, Lowe's contract is up) this offseason correct? I think that Hanson needs to be traded this offseason and JJ does whenever he turns things around so I wouldn't be worried about signing them long term. I don't think we should sign bourn because he will want a 5yr deal and is a Boras client. I just don't think the Braves should bother. Id rather take the 1st round pick and move on with someone else.

To sum things up, who would you go after this offseason and/or trade for? I would LOVE Hamilton, but I just think he will want too long of a deal for his age...

with the problems we have this year with our rotation, i don't think it will be wise to trade Hanson. Not yet.

Let Prado play 3rd, trade for Josh Willingham, Sign BJ Upton, resign Ross.

If we can't resign Upton or Bourn due to salaries, I won't be opposed to give Pagan a two year deal.

of course not, i was just talking about the major moves...we still have to sign a reliever, maybe another starter and some bench players

But thats what im talking about you just spent 15M on our "major moves" and have 20M left in pocket to sign 3 bench players and a relief pitcher.

well, we don't know how much money Upton will command in the free agent market, you are assuming 8 millions, i think he could get 10 mil, but we don't know yet. I will probably sign or trade for another SP, and bench players in total will get probably 5 more millions. In total we're talking about something around 30 millions, that depends on which SP we sign/trade.

    1. If I have to pay 10 for Upton id much rather put a little extra and sign Bourn.
    2. We are crammed tight with SP, don't see us going after one.

    Personally here's what I'd do

    1. Re-Sign Bourn 4yr/52M 5th year club option (13M)
    2. Sign Nick Swisher 4yr/52M (13M)
    3. Re-Sign David Ross 2yr/6M (3M)
    4. Sign Andruw Jones 1yr 2M (2M)
    5. Sign Scott Hairston 1yr/2M (2M)
    6. Sign best available free agent relief pitcher3M and under

    4. Freeman 1B
    5. Uggla 2B
    6. McCann C
    7. Heyward RF
    8. Simmons SS

Looks pretty damn good to me

    1. Both Bourn and Upton are great CF's, Upton is younger has a lot more power and almost the exact OBP, and is cheaper? sign me up.
    2. This is June a littler early to talk about this, maybe in october this moves are completely wrong, but right now Minor is struggling big time, and Delgado is just a 5th starter, Hudson has been a little inconsistent, Teheran doesn't look ready and we don't know what we would get out of Medlen. i'm assuming the braves will trade/release JJ. That leaves you:

    Hudson
    Beachy
    Hanson
    Medlen/Minor
    Delgado

That's a good, not great rotation. With the addition of another good starter it will help us a lot.

I'd like the Swisher move, but Willingham is a good power hitter too and just for 7 mil. If we trade for Will it will give us more money to get that starter i think we need.

Some good arguments, although I'm somewhat uneasy about giving a long term deal to Swisher at age 32 at that price.

I'd still rather invest in a legitimate ace for this rotation, via trade or FA, even if it means declining the bulldog Hudson's option. Then the other starters can slide back, and Wren can gauge their value to deal for an everyday left fielder.

    Shaun Marcum
    Edwin Jackson
    Anibal Sanchez

Those are really good candidates, all free agents. Would love to get Sanchez BTW.

Just looked it up: Similar age we know, but Swisher's got a 764 OPS and Willingham has a 965 OPS.

Resign Bourn at about RSD's price, find yourselves a bonafide ace, and you should be set.

(*NOTE: This is all assuming David Wright doesn't want to come here as the heir.)

Oh yes if David wright becomes a free agent he would be number 1 on the list.
