    To those that do not know mathematics it is difficult to get across a feeling as to the beauty, the deepest beauty of baseball. If you want to learn about baseball, to appreciate baseball, it is necessary to understand the language she speaks.

    Jack Morris only made this list because I have seen so many people say he was the best pitcher of the 80's.

    I put Henderson, but it was a very hard choice. Clemens, Ryan and Gooden were all incredibly dominant, but Henderson's insanely low K%/high BB%, plus his speed and nice pop in the bat were incredible.

    I went Rickey.

    I sat and thought about Mike Schmidt for both the 70s and 80s. I think he is top 3 in each decade and the best from the mid-70s to mid-80s.

    I went with Clemens. He was just sooooo good. He only pitched half the decade and still came in 4th in WAR among all players, 1st among pitchers. However, he's also my second favorite player, ever. So.... I'm biased.

    BTW, Boggs needs some votes. You all see how disgustingly good he was during the decade!?!?

    .346/.436/.472

    His .436 was better than second place by .031.

    He led the league in BA 5x in those 10 years.
    He led the league in OBP 6x in those 10 years.

    wOBA: .401 (4th)
    wRC+: 147 (T-6th)

    He was better than Schmidt in both categories, as well as WAR and more than twice as good with the glove.

    Oh, and he only struck out 6.7% of the time. Dude was an absolute monster. Only knock was that he hit a lot of singles.

    35.1 WAR (10th among pitchers)

    Worse K/BB ratio than Clemens

    Worse HR/9 than Clemens

    And one can't use volume/quantity to argue for him against Clemens here because, as I said, his total WAR is considerably lower even with nearly 1500 more innings pitched, and Clemens kept up that torrid pace he was on throughout the mid 90s.

    He was my favorite player as a kid, so I was hoping to see him on the list, but there is no way I would vote for him.
