So with the extension talks on hold where do you thing this ends up?
If we extend him, how much and for how long?

If I was him i'd wait to see how the season plays out. No one knows for sure if the Brewers are as good as some like to say.
If I were him and the brewers weren't offering me Matt Cain money I would wait until free agency too
I really want the brewers to resign him.
I think he's gone. With Weeks, Braun, Hart, Ramirez, etc and their escalators, I'm not sure we can afford Greinke and still put pieces in other locations.
If I facepalmed any harder I would have cracked my own skull.

That is what I was thinking. Maybe a 5-75 mil deal, maybe. But now that he will be wanting Cain money theres no way.
Does today's start lower his value?![]()

It should.
Any guesses as to what team he would be comfortable playing for and would be able to pay him the money he is looking for?
Greinke speaks -- briefly -- about negotiations
By Todd Rosiak of the Journal Sentinel
April 12, 2012
Chicago — Two days after Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said he’d tabled discussions with agent Casey Close about a possible contract extension for pitcher Zack Greinke, the right-hander addressed the situation briefly.
“I’ve been told that it’s just between my agent and the team now,” he said following the Brewers’ 8-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Thursday afternoon. Greinke started and lasted just 3?2/3 innings, being roughed up for nine hits and eight earned runs.
Greinke was asked if he was discouraged by the fact the two sides are no longer talking.
“It’d have been nice,” he said. “I thought it might have been a long shot from the beginning, but it’s up to them now. They’re just doing it.”
While both Greinke and the Brewers have been tight-lipped about any potential negotiations since the start of spring training, it’s no secret they’d like to work out something long-term with the 28-year-old. Greinke’s recent hiring of Close appeared as though it could have been a step in that direction.
Milwaukee surrendered a huge package of prospects to the Kansas City Royals when it acquired Greinke via trade in December 2010. Should he reach free agency, he’s likely to be one of the most coveted starting pitchers on the market.
What appeared to be a fairly clear-cut market for starters of Greinke’s caliber took an unexpected upward turn last week, when the San Francisco Giants signed right-hander Matt Cain to a five-year, $112 million extension.
It’s unclear whether the Brewers have the financial means or motivation to offer Greinke something similar or even more lucrative, if need be.
Greinke has had an up-and-down 2012. While he struggled against the Cubs on Thursday, he opened the season with a seven-inning shutout of the St. Louis Cardinals at Miller Park.
Manager Ron Roenicke was asked before the game if he was looking at this as Greinke’s last year with the Brewers.
“No, and I don’t think Zack feels that way, either,” he said. “Zack likes it here, he does. And if things work out, great. That’s the issues that you have with free agency, that we had with Prince (Fielder) last year.
"Prince kept his focus where it should be all last year, didn’t talk about it much and Zack is definitely capable of doing that.”

If the Brewers are in the top two or everyone is close in the top 3 come mid June, I think he signs. I think he knows the Brewers will be tough to beat for a few years to come.

If they don't get an extension worked out, I could honestly see the Cubs make a run at him. The Red Sox will be a player. You can never count out the Yankees. The Rangers would be a good team for him but they've spent way to much to tie up money with him too. Atlanta is a place he could be comfortable. The Pirates could make the move to finally work at getting over the hump but they'd really have to show they're serious about making a run.
I'm not sure he'd go for Chicago, Boston, or New York to be honest. He's such a unique player that I can see him being locked up long term for a slightly below market deal just because I'm guessing his list of acceptable places to play is a lot smaller/different than most guys.
