    Parenteau, Islanders to talk.

Contract discussions are expected to resume between P.A. Parenteau and the New York Islanders, his agent confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com

Parenteau is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1, and with a career-high 67 points this season, the 29-year-old winger is in line for a significant pay raise from the $1.25 million he made this year.

"Now that the New York Islanders season is over, we are looking forward to start negotiations with the club," Parenteau's agent, Allan Walsh, said in a text message to ESPNNewYork.com

Throughout the season, Parenteau had expressed his desire to remain with the Islanders, but negotiations were tabled right before the trade deadline, with the team still hoping to squeak into the playoff picture.

The Islanders, however, missed the playoffs for the fifth straight season.

"PA has made it clear he wants to remain with the Islanders. He has assumed a leadership role with the club. He's proven to be a great fit on one of the top scoring lines in the league and has great affinity for the organization that gave him the opportunity to play regularly in the NHL," Walsh said.

Parenteau missed the last game of the season with an ankle sprain, but it is not believed to be serious.

As great offensively as he is, his defense needs alot of work. He is lost out there on defense

He would be a perfect 2 RW in my opinion

^And? He shouldnt be expected to be good defensively, nor should any forward. Good D from a forward is a +, but the only thing you can ask for is not being lazy defensively, and PAP is not

Any team that wins needs forwards to play defense to
Also I think JT needs a bigger guy on one of his wings, and since moulson is glued to JT that leaves pa. But pa played just well of JTs wing this season

The best player in the world (Crosby) doesnt play defense

He needs size on his wing, but Nino better not be that guy next year. I want Nino in Bridgeport next year, or it will be another lost season

Well yeah, Crosbys line mates play great D. Moulson plays decent defense but he's litteraly slower than a cinder block.
I still have hopes for niņo. I wanna see him in Jr's
