The story of this game was M Smith loses his stick behind the net & the Hawks can't muster one SOG before he gets it back. That pissed me off to no end!
Other than that solving M Smith went EXACTLY as I said it would. Don't take center shots. He's like an impentrable wall. Get him moving side & side & he's very vulnerable. The first goal was Toews threading the needle on one side, & the 2nd goal was an easy shot into empty space on the other side. Other than that, Smith gave away a lot of rebounds & the Hawks didn't do much with them.
The Hawks did have a decisive SOG adv but all the center shots are good for is generating rebounds & if you don't do anything with them their worthless.
Defensively, the Hawks had some turnovers so no they weren't flawless, but for the most part they played well until ...
the game-winner for Phx.
I wanted to wring their necks! Two defensemen forming a sandwich around a net minder is stupid to no end! All they accomplish is creating a screen in front of Crawford. That makes his job HARDER to defend a re-direct which is the WHOLE purpose of a net minder! One of those defensemen should have gotten out in front of that guy & sprawled his body to block the pass & the other should have muscled him out of the position!
If Q is the good coach I know he is he will HARP to no end on that play to make sure it does not happen again! That level of stupidity is unacceptable of the sweater!
