Whether it supports the Braves or not is irrelevant to me. I'll read an article that does nothing but bash the Braves, as long as it's written by an expert.

i still don't get all the love for uggla...

career worst in homers, career high in k-rate (10th highest on the year), career worst ba, pitiful ops. no matter how you look at it, uggla had a terrible, not bad, year. he's getting close to, if not already, passing his prime. i'd wager we can expect his power numbers to keep dwindling, and with his already bad defense, what the hell good is he?

the knock on rev was his inconsistent bat and his lack of range. we wouldn't lose hardly anything by playing him and throwing uggla in a trade.

just my opinion, i haven't been swayed by 'arguments' about his worth so far, and i sure don't expect to start now.

First off, having career worsts isn't that big of a deal for a guy that has spent his entire career as one of the best offensive second basemen in baseball. He's just descended from great to merely decent. And his "pitiful OPS" was still better than those of Rickie Weeks, Howie Kendrick, Danny Espinosa, Jason Kipnis and Kelly Johnson. If we use wOBA instead, which is a better stat since it takes into account that a point of OBP is worth more than a point of SLG, then you can add Brandon Phillips, Jose Altuve, and Daniel Murphy to the list of players worse than Uggla.

So while you can think whatever you want about how good or bad Uggla is, you can't deny that major-league rosters aren't exactly bursting with better options. Other than Robinson Cano, Aaron Hill, Ben Zobrist, Dustin Pedroia, and Neil Walker, I challenge you to name one major-league second baseman who was significantly better than Dan Uggla in 2012.

How can you possibly say that the Braves would lose nothing by playing Pastornicky, whose OPS at AAA last year was worse than Uggla's in the majors? Justification please?

If nothing else, glad to see your open-minded about the issue.

Uggla lead the NL in walks. He walked more than anyone in the NL, means he gets on base witch is good for something.

yeah, if everyone who walked a lot made 13 mil, there'd be like 9 players per team. when uggla walks, it's as good as an out because who hits behind him? we have enough guys who walk already, we don't need uggla to walk. that's a terrible defense for his pathetically terrible brave stint.

Sure, we should blame Uggla because the players that hit behind him can't get him in...

blame uggla for doing nothing, more like. since when was 'walks a lot' (btw, his K numbers AND K ratio were both unbearably high) worth 13 mil? when we got him, i don't recall anyone saying, 'yes, uggla's here! we need someone to get on base.'
