No it's the opposite. I love Dirk as a player, but he isn't even close to a prime KG.

You can minus out the career numbers, because this is only about them in their prime, which is most commonly described as their best season, or best few seasons.

Even if you look at team success, prime Garnett, he won the league MVP by a landslide (120 out of 126 first place votes IIRC), and his team went to the WCF. In Dirk's MVP season, he got the award because of lack of anyone else deserving it, and his team got annihilated in the first round by an 8th seed.

Well even taking out their career #'s Dirk's peak years are every bit as good as Garnetts.

Also, I'm not sure if you want to bring up 1st round exits considering those comprised most of Garnetts "peak years".

It's close. To me Garnett was a more talented all around player but as I said before, he lacked that willingness to be the offensive focal point at the end of games, so I'd take Dirk.

Both are well deserving of being picked.

With the teams that he's had he should have had about 3 or 4 rings now

and KG for the majority of his career played with Troy Hudson & Wally Sczcerbiak

The one year in Minny that he had an alright supporting cast he went to the WCF just to see Cassell go down with an injury and he didnt get injured in 2009 he would have had a 3peat.. & who knows what would have happened if Perkins didnt go down in game 7

On top of that dont forget both the 2006/2007 playoffs for Dirk which he was responsible for the BIGGEST choke performances in HISTORY and also the 30-point lead blown by the Lakers

Plus KG has better defense, he's a better passer, rebounder, defender, better leader, etc.. Dirk just has a better jumpshot
Dirk went to a worse franchise than KG and turned that team into a champion and for 10 years in a row won 50+ games. KG in his prime years missed the playoffs 3 straight years even going from a #1 seed to missing the playoffs with the same exact team from the previous season.

if you want to win a championship with him as the go-to-guy, then Dirk Nowitzki.

Dirk has always been on a completely different level than Kevin Garnett when it comes to the playoffs, not even close.

You can't take KG's career numbers because he came into the league out of high school and he finished his career as a third option... Take both players' prime and it isn't close.

The expectations are visible behind Dwight Howard in LA

Not close?! Dirk's highest PER is very close to KGs, and his highest WS/48 is higher, and his highest TS% is better.

    It's incredibly close...

Good now factor in rebounding and defensive impact and it's "not close" all over again.
