New York, Cleveland Confirm Trade
Friday, March 1st, 1985: 26-year-old RF Willie McGee will now be playing for the Cleveland Indians and nothing will be suiting up for the New York Yankees. The trade was announced today at a press conference by club officials.
His numbers show McGee is carrying a .288 lifetime batting average with 44 home runs and 408 RBIs.

Barker Struts Stuff in Minnesota Win
Saturday, April 27th, 1985: SP Len Barker held the Twins to 3 harmless hits as the Cleveland Indians whitewashed Minnesota by the score of 10-0. Barker had 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in the win.

Big Bat Pays Off, Schmidt Player of the Week
Monday, April 29th, 1985: The Sub League 2 made it official today: C David Schmidt is the Player of the Week.
He really sparkled on the diamond this week with a .381 average to take home the trophy. The Tampa catcher went 8-21, drove in 11 runs, scored 5 times and hit 2 home runs.
Schmidt is presently hitting at a .247 pace with 6 home runs and 30 RBIs. He has played in 22 games and scored 17 times.
Ainge Wins SL2 Player of the Week Prize
Monday, May 13th, 1985: Today the Sub League 2 announced its Player of the Week Award winner -- Tampa Bengals 2B Danny Ainge, who batted .519 (14-27) with 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 9 runs scored.
On the year Ainge is hitting .323 with 40 hits, 2 home runs, 15 RBIs, .418 OBP and has scored 27 runs.
Lansford Week's #1 Player
Monday, May 27th, 1985: The Sub League 1 today announced 1B Jody Lansford as its Player of the Week.
The Vernon first baseman was truly in a zone as he hit .538 (14-26) with 1 home run and 8 RBIs.
Thus far this year Lansford has hit .344 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs.

Lemanczyk Voted Best SL1 Pitcher in May
Saturday, June 1st, 1985: Veteran SP Dave Lemanczyk put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Cuthbert River Kings, earning himself the Sub League 1 Pitcher of the Month award.
Lemanczyk racked up a 5-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 0.92 ERA over 39 innings and striking out 13.
In 11 starts this season Lemanczyk has fashioned a 9-2 record and a 2.39 ERA.

Devereaux Snares SL2 Top Batter Award in May
Saturday, June 1st, 1985: CF Mike Devereaux put together a good May to earn the Sub League 2 Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Jersey City officials that he belongs on the big league roster.
The Scoundrels center fielder posted a .345 batting average with 7 home runs, 27 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
This season Devereaux has delivered 81 hits in 214 at-bats for a .379 average with 16 home runs. He is getting on base at a .451 clip and his totals also include 60 RBIs and 43 runs scored. This year Devereaux has played in 54 games.

Devereaux Wins SL2 Player of the Week
Monday, June 10th, 1985: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Sub League 2, but last week CF Mike Devereaux of the Jersey City Scoundrels reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Devereaux rocked opposing pitching for a .476 average (10-21), 2 home runs and 6 RBIs to come away with the award.
Devereaux on the season is hitting .386 with 18 home runs. His stats include 66 RBIs and 50 runs scored.

Patterson Raps Worcester for 5 Hits
Thursday, June 13th, 1985: Today LF Mike Patterson led the Vernon Silver to a 6-2 win over the Worcester Sharks. He topped all hitters in the game with 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
M. Patterson hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
This year Patterson is batting .307 with 8 home runs and 35 RBIs.
SL2's Top Hitter Selected
Monday, July 1st, 1985: 2B Daijiro Oishi has a lot going for him. The Jersey City second baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the Sub League 2 has just picked him as its top hitter for June.
In 23 games last month, this outstanding rookie batted .362 with 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
In 72 games this season Oishi has batted at a .293 pace with 67 hits and 7 home runs.
Barrage of Hits Gets Motley SL2 Award
Monday, July 8th, 1985: RF Darryl Motley burst onto the Sub League 2 stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie right fielder for Jersey City garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.
The 25-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .480 (12-25) with 2 home runs and 9 RBIs last week.
Thus far this year Motley is batting .349 with 8 home runs, 32 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

Kittle Week's Best Player
Monday, July 15th, 1985: All week long 1B Ron Kittle made the highlight reels and made headlines -- his name and face were everywhere. So it was no surprise to anyone when he was chosen the Sub League 2's Player of the Week for his standout performance.
Kittle put up a solid set of stats, compiling a .421 average (8-19) and contributing 4 home runs and 6 RBIs to claim the honor.
This year Kittle is hitting .332 with 20 home runs and 55 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .420 clip and scored 43 runs.
Jersey City's Pena SL2 Star of the Week
Monday, July 29th, 1985: At the age of 26, SS Bert Pena might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Jersey City shortstop put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .577 batting average. For his efforts Pena collected the Sub League 2 Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 15 hits in 26 at-bats, 1 home run and 3 RBIs last week in 6 games.
This season Pena is hitting .295 with 10 home runs.
SL1 Votes River Kings Ochiai Top Player
Monday, April 7th, 1986: His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing 1B Hiromitsu Ochiai was rewarded with the Sub League 1 Player of the Week honors.
The scrappy Cuthbert River Kings first baseman hit .450 while collecting 9 hits in 20 at-bats, 2 home runs and 8 RBIs.
