The Peyton Manning ordeal works in the Saints' favor as even front-loading a contract could be disastrous. I don't see Brees getting his $23M, but with Manning's contracted voided, he will become the highest-paid QB in the league.
2) We're keeping one of the best HC/GM combos in the game. The Saints will retain Payton and Loomis. I fully believe that, and I think that is for the best. The Saints are not a chaotic franchise and are more cohesive than most teams in the league. Payton did what a lot of coaches would likely do, so I don't hold that against him. He and Loomis built a team of high-character (football character, at least) players. Don't let this scandal make you forget that.
3) Goodell's punishment might help the Saints. It sounds weird, but it just may. Vilma is getting on in age (and knee surgeries aren't helping) and Harper doesn't give us enough from the SS position. If one or both get suspended, see the Saints cutting bait and saving some money. Dunbar can replace Vilma, and there will be FA options to replace Harper. While losing draft picks hurt, I think we can agree that Romeus in the 7th round last year is like getting a free 2nd round pick this year. That helps mitigate the situation.
