    1) We will sign Brees long term. The negotiation has been ugly, but I don't believe Brees is going anywhere. I see the sides settling around $20M for the first three years. The Peyton Manning ordeal works in the Saints' favor as even front-loading a contract could be disastrous. I don't see Brees getting his $23M, but with Manning's contracted voided, he will become the highest-paid QB in the league.

    2) We're keeping one of the best HC/GM combos in the game. The Saints will retain Payton and Loomis. I fully believe that, and I think that is for the best. The Saints are not a chaotic franchise and are more cohesive than most teams in the league. Payton did what a lot of coaches would likely do, so I don't hold that against him. He and Loomis built a team of high-character (football character, at least) players. Don't let this scandal make you forget that.

    3) Goodell's punishment might help the Saints. It sounds weird, but it just may. Vilma is getting on in age (and knee surgeries aren't helping) and Harper doesn't give us enough from the SS position. If one or both get suspended, see the Saints cutting bait and saving some money. Dunbar can replace Vilma, and there will be FA options to replace Harper. While losing draft picks hurt, I think we can agree that Romeus in the 7th round last year is like getting a free 2nd round pick this year. That helps mitigate the situation.
Something else many people dont realize is that we have an undrafted free agent WR thats has a lot of potential in Joe Morgan 6'1 184 (easily runs a 4.0 in 40) had that long punt return in preseason I believe he could possibly be worth alot and easily replace Meacham... Watch out for Arrington and Andy Tanner both have been in our system for atleast 2 years.

Great points. I forgot about Morgan. He dazzled in the preseason, and I have high hopes for him this season. He's ready to take over returning punts (less work on Sproles) and could be a better deep threat than Meachem or Henderson. I'm excited about him.

I've supported Arrington for years, but he hasn't made much of an impact in the games he got in. Unless he dazzles in the preseason, I don't know if he has a future with the team. Tanner could be useful, though. He appears to have good hands like Moore, and Brees loves him a WR with good hands.

Lol.. That'd be faster than Deon Sanders, Chris Johnson, Reggie Bush, and Devin Hester.

I like Morgan, think he will be better than Arrington, but I ain't buyin that.

How's this for an optimistic outlook. Sources are saying to ESPN's Adam Schefter and PFT's Mike Florio that the reason it is taking so long for the NFL to announce the penalties for the Saints is that Goodell is trying to be careful to avoid making the Saints noncompetitive with the rest of the league.
Some WR's are divas. Then there's new Saints WR Kenny Stills

That's good news as far as players and draft choices go. I'm thinking he is going to want his pound of flesh though. Loomis or Payton????

That's a cheap shot and a little ignorant. There's a lot going on than simply wanting X amount of dollars. For all Brees has done for the team and region, I think he is owed more than turning on him because he won't sign the contract we would rather he sign.

If it was me, I can't say I wouldn't try to squeeze every penny out of a contract.

Can't argue honestly. The guy is trying to set himself and his family up for life. He's got a third kid on the way. People wanna say that Peyton Manning is willing to take less for his new team, but the fact is that Manning got a #1 overall pick contract to start with, then signed a HUGE extension in 2004. Brees was a 2nd round pick with the Chargers and then signed a decent deal with the Saints, but he was the 16th highest paid QB or something like that. This will probably be his last contract. Can't blame the guy for wanting the money

And Manning is only taking less because he has to. No one knows how strong his arm is or will ever be again. He doesn't have much leverage.
