Saints visit with G Ben Grubbs got underway about 3:00pm local time. As far as I know, he's still at the facility. A league source said that although the 2012 free agent market has opened at its usual frenetic pace, no move on Grubbs was likely until Thursday.

Here's more on Ben Grubbs from James Varney of The Times Picayune:
"Certainly replacing a lost Pro Bowl interior lineman with another represents the Saints best option at the moment. It remained unclear just how much money the Saints may save by signing Grubbs as opposed to Nicks. Grubbs, 28, had a base salary of $2.9 million and counted $3.7 million against the Ravens salary cap last year, according to published reports.
Grubbs, 6-feet-3, 310, had never missed a start in four years in the NFL - and started 60 of those games - before an injury held him out of six games in the 2011 campaign. Despite that setback, the Auburn product came back to the Ravens and started every game. He was again named to the AFC Pro Bowl team as Baltimore advanced to the AFC Championship game."

Hawthorne I want to sign. The other LB visiting this weekend though...bleagh. Joe Mays has been worse at coverage than Roman Harper. He'd be first and second down only for run support

More on LB David Hawthorne, who could play all three LB positions for us if he were to sign. Four teams including the Saints appear to be interested. Our primary competition may be the Bears, who hope for Hawthorne to be the heir apparent to 34 year old MLB Brian Urlacher

LB David Hawthorne will arrive in NOLA on Friday. More on him from The Times Picayune:
Hawthorne, who turns 27 in May, has started at both middle linebacker and weakside linebacker over the past three years, leading Seattle in tackles with more than 100 in each of those seasons. The 6-foot, 246-pounder battled through a sprained medial collateral ligament throughout last season but only missed one start in Week 1. He has 350 tackles, six sacks, seven interceptions and five forced fumbles in his four-year career.

More on Joe Mays, also from The Times Picayune:
Mays, who turns 27 this summer, started 12 games at middle linebacker for the Broncos last year and finished with a career-high 75 tackles. The 5-11, 250-pounder has 133 tackles in four years with the Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles. He was traded to Denver for tailback J.J. Arrington in 2010, and he began to see more playing time with the Broncos. He will likely visit over the weekend.

Even if we don't get Grubbs, which I obviously would hate, I think this is the perfect spot for him but if we don't get him, Evan Mathis is available, Steve Hutchinson, Eric Steinbach are all options. I wouldn't be opposed to moving Strief inside and Charles Brown at RT. Those are all options, but Ben Grubbs is still #1 in my mind
