I want to point out (again) that he turned down the richest contract in NFL history.

    Yes...I know, amazing.
I posted that last week about the turn downed contract. I'm with you 100%

What a lot of people forget is that Brees was one of the players that sued the NFL during the lockout. No way the Saints would cave in to his (or Condon's) unrealistic salary demands. I think it's quite telling that they waited until the very last minute to tag him. Do you think you can sue your employer then ask and/or receive a big promotion? I think not. This is a business first.

It's kind of ironic that he fought to have the Franchise tag removed now its been used on him the transition Franchise tag at that!

Hell he shouldn't be pissed at the Saints he should be pissed at his friggin agent.

Brees wants more upfront than over the life of the contract. I don't see why we couldn't bridge this gap by offering him more guaranteed money (which is more important than how much he earns a year) and adding some kind of ambassador clause that would pay him a percentage of what remains on his contract should he be forced to retire before it ends. That way he can stay around the team and promote the organization and be protected should he have his career end due to injury.

At this point with all the decent available FA QB's are gone and we dont have a 1st rd pick. Its time to pay the MAN, without Brees we are a sub- 500 team. I like winning , I do not want to go back to 2005 AND THE PAST. its not my money so pay him and move on. This will also potentially help increase the salary cap next year. WHODAT

Who knows when and who will be involved in suspensions. This deal has to get done ASAP. Drew is more than a qb. He'll have to be more of a leader and coach if there are suspensions. The possibility of him holding out right now has to be dealt with before anything happens.

Some more players will have to be restructured, hopefully not cut or traded: Shanle, Ellis, Vilma, Henderson, and even Jahri. Something is going to have to give...

I think some of those guys may be out with the penalties they get. So we'll get capspace by default.

Now that we've signed a solid DT if we can get at least one solid LB I dont car how much money we can scrape up to give Brees.

With the suspension of various defenders looming, the money saved over those games goes into the Brees Fund.

questions about this, as I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere...since the GM is getting suspended, how/when will the negotiations take place? Will it be interim front office folks? do they wait until Loomis gets back? When does his suspension start? week 1?

Loomis' suspension starts after the final preseason game. I assume he will select someone to take over for those 8 games.

Falcons fan huh I know you ray:ing we fall apart. Seriously thats the first question I had, but I'm telling everyone that asks me this is all not as bad as it seems. IF IF for some reason Brees doesnt sign and holds out ANY Saints fan knows that we will do the following at a minimum:

With Grubbs and Evans along with our other optiosn we will have a solid line any QB can be successfull to a certain degree behind a good line

We will have one of the best running teams in NFL Sproles, Thomas, Ivory and what if Ingram explodes in his second year keep in min he missed almost all of last year and we were still 6th in rushing

An improved Defense now we have one of the best run stuffers in NFL signed BB I expect Rogers and or Franklin to come back cheap due to lack of interest in FA with Ellis and the Jordan and Romeous potential is very high Our LB corp will be younger and faster Wilson Casillas will play more ynder a hell of a HC/DC Spags so we lose Payton but we have really 3 other HC Spags Vitt Carmichael

In Sproles we have a dangerous returner PERIOD

Jimmy Graham, Colston, Moore, Henderson is a nice group of receivers to be throwing too expecially when Sproles and Thomas catch out backfield Chase Daniels follows Brees around like no other backup in the NFL all Saints fans know this he can make some throws if needed trust me he had a decent preseason and there are some very plausible starting QB Vets still floating around

all of that and we arent even dont in FA or draft or post draft we aint going no where we are the Saints and THIS IS NEW ORLEANS WHO DAT!

But not having a QB like Brees makes the running game less efficient. I don't think our running game is independently great.

I definitely believe in the pass setting up the run, but the way we run is different. We don't run out of pass personnel formation well. We shift personnel, bring in Strief for example, and we come right at you when we run.

In doing that we lose the surprise of is it a pass or a run.

However, and its kind of ironic to me, that what we do well out of the run formation is pass. We are argueably the best playaction team in the NFL. I think teams know they can't stop our pass game and their gameplan is don't get beat by both so they respect the run.

FWIW, Benson says the two sides are close and expects to have a deal done soon. Of course, I'd expect him to say that even if it wasn't true.
