Nonis and Burke both said they won't do anything major. **** sakes. I mean that's smart I guess but the way this team has played... how can you not do anything.

It's a pretty big let down for nothing to happen.. 2nd round pick for Steve Ott or something would be nice. Just bring in some energy and intensity at least.

If he wants to be here so bad trade him for a 1st and a prospect and then just resign him in the off season. He gets playoff experience and ends up with the same contract we'll give him while we get 2 valuable assets while having a worse team - which helps the tank - and still get Grabo long term. I don't understand why things like this don't happen more often.

I don't.. I use plekanec as the barometer here.. He's a 5 cap hit and for grabovski to earn that coin, he has to stay above 55 points every year and have a year or two of 70-75 pts...

i gotta say.... i like the guy but i don't see him reaching those levels... ergo, i don't want him above 4.25-4.5 per

Absolutely floored at the lack of movement. Networks must be pissed as well. Imagine the respective budgets that have been spent for both TSN and Sportsnet and so little to show for it (so far...might change).

If this continues as it did last year you can kiss wall to wall trade deadline coverage good-bye.

maybe he either wants this team to succeed or he's fine while plummeting in the standings for a lottery pick. I'm ok with either, although it'll be tough to watch leafs games if they play bad.

That's the worst mentality. I think you need to pick a direction and stick to it. There is no sense in doing nothing and settling for no playoffs and a pick around 12. IMO the strategy has to be to plummet - hopefully into a top 5 pick which isn't really that far off. Dump a few pieces like MacArthur and Grabo, pick up a few picks and specs and deplete your team to ensure poor results down the stretch. Tanking once for 20 games could be the difference between getting a 1st line franchise center and cornerstone in Grigorenko or an average 2nd/3rd line prospect between 10 and 14.

To me it's a no brainer. Suck up the losing for 20 more games and this franchise gets a HUGE boost for the next decade. Bring back Grabo as a FA and this team is looking like it has a bright future.

You dont see it more often because if the nhl finds out that a team and player make that sort of hand shake agreement the team will be penalized. ie loss of draft picks.

more on grabo at $5 per...

    andy macdonald
    kristian huselius
    connolly
    alfredsson
    bergeron
    havlat
    gionta
    plekanec
    ribeiro
    kesler
    rolston
    bobby ryan
    hossa
    carter
    pominville

these are the forwards that sit in the cap hit category of 4.7-5.3 per

this is the neighbourhood that grabo will be in.. thanks to f..king ruutu in carolina, it's likely grabo asks for more than the 4.75 ruutu got...

and there are studs on that list and there are guys who have had great seasons but are no longer worth that... i.e. gionta...

so, what's grabo worth? what's grabo actually get?

Grabo is worth 5 million. A top-end second line center going into his prime. You guys would rather see him walk then give him 500k-1million more then you think he's worth?

Cant argue with you at all with this phylosophy. Just not the bring back Grabo part. If you deal him and get value dont risk nhl punishment to bring him back.
