Lincecum refuses to sign a long term deal, b/c he simply doesn't want to. I'm not sure why but he says he can't see himself too far in advance and prefers shorter contracts.

Cain will be signed. If the team can throw 126 million to Zito and 40+ million to Rowand, they have the money to give Cain & Tim. They sell out every game, their merchandise sales are very good, in ST right now, giants games are packed, while other teams aren't nearly as filled (today dodger game was empty).

Lincecum never had any intention of signing a long term deal through his arbitration years. Some guys are confident in their durability that they'd prefer to test FA.

Your seeing a lot more players hold out now days or get paid the last year of their arbitration. It's not easy to lock up young talent with FA guaranteeing a huge pay day. Look at Cole Hamels, Troy Tulowitzki, Matt Kemp and Prince Fielder. You could just as easily say they should have been locked up earlier but they waited.

Deals like Evan Longoria are rare. And you can bet he's kicking himself for sacrificing the prime of his career for pennies.

Also, anyone trashing the Giants for not signing Posey or Bumgarner, for Christ sake they still have five and six years service time left. Why would you even discuss long term now? Most players won't even think of anything longer this early. Both have only played a little over a full season so far...

It's called cost control and a lot of clubs are doing it. It's the smart thing to do! I don't see how anyone can argue against it.

And Tulo was locked up early. He signed a six year, $31 million deal after his rookie year.

Did you really just compare Pedro to Lincecum? Pedro played for the expos who had no money to spend so of course he left in free agency. The giants are a top ten payroll team. Lincecum never wanted to sign a long term contract so you cant blame the team for that. Also the giants only have 15.5 millions dollars on the books for the year 2014 when Lincecum is to become a free agent. So if a team wants to outbid the giants they will have to give him a contract that is ridiculous otherwise the giants can match it easily.

Obviously organizations along with fans including myself want cost control over their players but my point is more and more players are holding out now days and it's not always an option.

Tulo was a poor example. Although he did extend to 10 yrs/157 mil.

Posey was able to coax a 6.2 mil signing bonus in the fifth slot of the draft. You really think he's ready to lock on long term now knowing what his future value is likely to be?

That's not necessarily true at all. McCutchen just signed to a very team friendly deal. It's happening all over the league and has been for quite some time. Pujols, Longoria, Tulo, Braun, Moore, etc.

No one has mentioned Posey but Posey would be a moron to turn down a deal that locked him long term not knowing how his ankle will hold up. Giants wouldn't be wise to offer a deal because of that very reason.

If Moore is a beast, then Bumgarner is a beast killer...

    3-1 2.97 ERA vs. 0-1 5.10 ERA

Madbum is going to get stronger and stronger. Word is he's the future ace of the staff (and pretty soon). It's just too bad Cain decided to allow 4 baserunners in his last two games (18 innings).

Madbum every time. Dude's gonna be a work horse for years. Moore still has to show he's even gonna be an elite pitcher and i'm not seeing is this at this point. Moore has had a tough schedule but he's not fooling to many hitters. It's debatable that Madbum is already the giants best pitcher.

    Update time.

Bumgarner just faced some good offenses and didn't exactly dominate them, but didn't get lit up. B/c of the giants AAA lineup, he took two losses.

    Here's the tally.

    Bumgarner 5-3 with 3.10 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP

Matt Moore 1-3 with a 5.31 ERA and 1.67 WHIP

    Three weeks later...

    Madison Bumgarner: 7-4 3.26 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP

    Matt Moore: 3-5 4.59 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP

This year Madbum is definitely the better pitcher. I also tend to give him the edge for the future because he'll have better command than Moore.

Has it been mentioned that Bumgarner is actually younger the Moore? Moore may have more upside in the future, but give me the younger pitcher who is already knocking on the door of being an elite starting pitcher, and has already been excellent on the biggest stage.
